Why not ! !! register longer i better.
It because it will reduce the risk that you forget to renew your domain name. Because they do lot of complain can be found in forum and blog that web hosting provider to do not remind them to renew and cause them lose their domain name and need use more money to bought it back. So go for 10 years register domain name if you can .

Haven't heard that in a while, most registars can't stop bugging you about renewing your domains, at least the ones i used do ( + there is at least 1 reminder a year as a rule from ICANN when you near your expiration date)
10 years is a lot of time, think about you and your site, do you think its still going to be up in 10 years? nobody can know, sure theres google that ranks higher sites registered for longer, its said that it does affect pagerank, but i think anything beyond 5 years is pointless, because none of us know really where we are going to be in 5 years, let alone 10, maybe your site will work, and maybe it won't, if your a individual, i would say don't do it
if you are a business though, its a different story, it might be a good idea to show that you mean business and you are staying here for good, its a good way to broadcast safety i think, thats my 2c.
