    This is a file which can be submitted to search engines to get your pages indexed. There are two types of site maps first one is HTML site map and second one is XML site map both are really important and beneficial.

    Do you mean that html site map is a built-in html link which is just like an instruction to visitors while xml site map is only for submission.

    By the way, is it necessary to put all the URLs into sitemap including the 404 Not Found ones or just valid ones? Thanks in advance!!!!

    By using webmaster tools you can submit the site map of XML to google search engine. So google will index the site.like that we can submit to other search engines also only XML sitemap.

    My own opinion for sitemap HTML sitemap user friendly and very useful for your visitors it reduce bounce rate of your site and XML sitemap is most important part for our website because when Google Crawler crawl our websites so bots easily crawl our site.

    XML sitemap search engine friendly.

XML sitemap is made for crawlers of search engines, in a way to read each and every page and index and crawl them again after any updation in sitemaps.
