I am just curiuos to Know Why ? Why Google cant Acquire www.G.com domain ? Paypal has www.X.com so why Google cant ? are there some restrictions on One Letter domain for Big companies even ?
I'm not sure if it's the good way to go. If the IANA (Internet assigned numbers authority) agrees to sell g.com to google then facebook will probably want f.com. But let's say that in 10 years google or facebook aren't the big thing anymore. Should they give back the one letter domain to the next big website? I think that's something the IANA don't want to have to deal with hehe.
Perhaps Google does not want to own g.com? After all, what purpose would it serve? Sure, g.com might be useful to a startup, as I am sure there is some curious type-in traffic to the domain. But everyone already knows about Google - the company likely would not earn a sufficient return on investment from such a domain.
The current owner of g.com (and, most of the precious domains) is IANA. Google can't get it as long as IANA do not want to release that perticular domain. Also, the domain is registered on 1993, way before Google born. So, they can't claim it either (on the ground of trademark or anything).
Digitech pretty much summed it all up. Another note is that like said they won't get a good RoI for that domein. If you would be Google, would you buy the G.com domain? What other positive sides does it have besides being shorter than Google? After all people will still use Google and not G.
Why does Google have a right to g.com? I can see General Electric claiming the rights to ge.com because they have trademarked that just through their advertising alone. I have never heard, seen, or read where Google refers to themselves as 'G'.
lol yes, and btw if they start doing this it may create a more work, thats why they just decided to get the hell out of this.
