Try to focus on keywords that you think your desired audience would input into search engines - long/specific one could rank you higher in the search results.

it depends on the status of your site.. short kws are really good since that's what users usually use, but for a new or not that popular site its better to use long tail kw first.

short term keywords are good because they can derive heavy traffic to your site, while long term keywords are beneficial in conversions too..

I say keep it a mix of both. Short tail keywords as your short term target and long tail ones for your long term target. Try to a research on their volume too before choosing the best ones

I think first you should target long tail keywords and go for generic keywords. because short keywords takes time to ranking.

    Both are equally important..

Short tailed keywords are broad (e.g keyword is flower, so it can get traffic from many different keywords like yellow flower, flower delivery and so on! )... but comes with huge competition..
These keywords tell search engines what your website is all about.

On the other hand long tail keywords are more inclined towards the conversions and decide how much converting your content will be...(e.g very less people will target ‘flower delivery in Zurich’)

long tails keyword is more targeted and less competitive and it is hard for you to beat those big company in short keyword. I always prefer long tials keyword

I say keep a mixture of both. short tail keywords as your target in the short term and long queue for long-term goal. Research is a volume too before choosing the best

If you would like to go with localized then you use long-tail keywords that includes your city, region etc. And it can be used for optimizing inner pages too. But it is advisable to optimize with short tail keyword for home pages.

It depends on how much that keyword is competitive.
Long tail means more searches & less competition - where you can rank easily.
Short tail means more searches & more competition - difficult to rank in top position.

So check out all keywords, decide to work on first on long tail then side by side on short tail. ( means main keywords)

Long tail keywords usually have less competition, so I would go for long tail keywords. If I were you I wouldn't choose what keywords to choose from depending on how long they are, I would choose my keywords depending on how many competition there is, what is the quality of the websites from my competition, check if they are SEO optimized, I check the number of searches (EXACT) from that keyword and the CPC.

"Short tail key word" is the best for me because the searcher will find it easily but in terms of ranking it may be a hard one, But you can put it on a higher rank it depend in your ability to promote it.
