The DEATH penalty (Capital punishment)

In my state (utah), 9 people are on death row with the recent execution of Ronnie Lee Gardener.

Ron Lafferty has been on Utah's books since 1984, when he and his brother, Dan, killed their brother Allen's wife and baby in a slaying motivated by religion.

Ralph Menzies kidnapped and strangled a Kearns woman in 1986.

Troy Kell, a white separatist, got the death penalty after stabbing a black inmate 67 times in the prison in Gunnison in 1994.

Taberon Honie sexually-assaulted and murdered his ex-girlfriend's mother in Cedar City.

Douglas Lovell murdered Joyce Yost in 1985 to prevent her from testifying against him.

Michael Anthony Archuleta raped and murdered a gay Southern Utah University student in 1988.

Von Lester Taylor murdered and terrorized members of a family at a cabin in 1990.

Floyd Maestas was convicted of the home invasion robbery and murder of 72-year-old Donna Lou Bott.

Douglas Stewart Carter stabbed and shot to death the aunt of a former police chief in Provo in 1985.

Here's the question: Is this right? Do we as human beings have the right to put an end to other peoples lives for any reason? Is the death penalty itself a crime? Or do we have a right to protect ourselves from murderers and rapists by putting an end to repeat or brutal offenders?

After reading over your list, I've come to the conclusion that capital punishment is not always the answer. For some of these murderers, it would probably be better to torture them instead.

What else do you think we should do with these murderers and rapists? Send them to rehab with Lindsay Lohan? I think a person who kills or raps another human being means they have no respect for other human being's rights. So such people don't have any rights either. Yes there is a high chance they will repeat the offences again if they are set free.

Torture them first. The death penalty is an easy way out.

It sounds morbid, but death seems like not enough of a punishment, because we are not really sure what happens to us in the afterlife. My only hope is that they can get the proper punishment wherever they go. However, it is a relief to know they are gone, and are not capable of committing any more horrible crimes.

I think the purpose of death penalties is to avoid the same thing happened in the future.
But, with all porn and paid sex facilities, legal alcohol, drugs, and any other thing that erasing integrity of society....
Bad things is just too easy to be happened...

I think torturing them for a long time or some other punishment and them locked away for life. Killing isn't always the answer but that's the law and we can't do anything about it.

I agree with everyone so far that the death penalty is not to harsh. I am not so sure about torturing them though.
I am surprised there aren't more people against it! People against Death penalty are usually loud voices. Is anybody here against it? if so, just wondering why?

Most of the people against death penalty are religious ones. I, for one, supports death sentence.

    That it does.

Death penalty should be given only in the rarest of rare cases. The crime should be viewed in an holistic manner and a chance may be given to the accused to reform. Tit for tat will not work in every case.
