I've been following a thread over at the google forums, and its pretty amazing. Since the farmer update, they took a huge hit and are on the verge of having to shut down their business and layoff people. If you look at their site, its pretty awesome, and clearly has been a worthwhile site for a long time. http://www.daniweb.com/
Its a fantastic forum, without a doubt. But when Dani says I wouldn't really think this "100% of our content is 100% unique" is possible on any forum. Just my opinion.
That sucks a lot! Hope he gets some of his rankings back or finds out a good way to change his website to make it better. It has always been a pleasure to follow some discussions over there or ask a question.
I just read some of that. I've seen sites far worse than that still rank highly after the latest Google update. Hopefully for him and his business he gets some of that back. I kind of side with the one guy in the Google thread who said "Every webmaster claims their site is innocent. The facts often lie somewhere else." Seems to me if Google lowered their SERP's, they had a reason.
Maybe instead of laying off he should have hired an seo specialist, and got some more genuine back links, or rewrote some content??
$8000 hosting bill + salary is a lot to pay when your income is gone. They got their adsense account suspended too.
another one bites the dust. u can't blame google on everything. we all know that some times this thing would eventually happen to us. changes of algo and so on
This is nice to read. Such a good information there. Guys read the entire conversations carefully. Everyone can learn a lot from there on what you can do if you are hit by recent google PR update. Thanks to @dvduval for pointing us to that link
True. Also, I hope he has saved some of his past earnings. Someone knows the reason why his Google Adsense account got banned? Hope he can find enough new additional revenue stream resources.
I learned so many things in this thread I do hope Google will do something about this mess that daniweb is currently into.
If they shut down, then they should of learned - don't rely on one source of traffic. And here's the link http://www.daniweb.com/internet-marketing/search-engine-optimization/news/350575
I don't know that the owner of Danniweb is a woman. =).What other alternative source of traffic daniweb.com may avail aside from the huge traffic it gets from google?
It's a community and should've been able to build up a decent memberbase with many members who are active -- like DP. And who cares if it's a guy or a girl?
I hope this doesn't happen because they been around for years..guess everyone have to go to plan "B" now
