I own two domains and haven't done a lot with either of them, but starting this summer I'll have time to start posting daily on one of them. I'll be posting about mainly internet-related topics including hosted apps, domain names, other fun tech-y things. I liked MiscBytes.COM for a while, but last summer I found InternetLiving.NET and snapped it up too, since I love the idea of "Internet Living." Which domain would be the best to invest my time in? MiscBytes is shorter and has the .com, of course, but InternetLiving has the keyword "internet." Thanks for your help!
My question to you is that in which domain are you more interested in ie in which domain u can work and there is alot of potential in that domain if u know in which domain u can write or post more then i think u should spend your time on that domain
My gut feeling is to go with Internet Living, since that's my big interest - cloud living + making as much of my income as possible from internet-related ventures. That .NET started bothering me though, and I also thought Misc Bytes might look like a cool "brandable" type name instead. If both names are equally "good" then I may just develop Internet Living as far as I can while maybe doing something totally different with Misc Bytes over the years.
Just a thought, but have you though about contacting the owner of InternetLiving.com and seeing if they're willing to sell for a reasonable price? I like both MiscBytes and InternetLiving, and not taking the extension into account I prefer the latter. Good luck with your project.
Oh yeah, the I L .com is owned by a company that owns lots of generic domain names and sometimes sells them.. Last summer I did try to ask them if it's for sale and how much they're asking, if so, but they never even acknowledged my email. I went to their website and while there are some domains for sale, that's not one of them at this point. Thanks both of you - I'm really looking forward to diving into this project.
I agree with Enjay that the name InternetLiving is nicer, but it's a shame about the TLD. However it's not like people are really going to worry too much about whether they're reading your blog on a .com or .net - as long as internetliving.com doesn't start becoming a recognised brand or site it's own right that will compete with you when people search for you by entering 'internet living' into the search engines. Also worth considering - are you expecting people at any point to be typing your URL in directly? If so, many people will get it wrong and type .com instead of .net, so the .com would be preferable there.
Very true people aren't really going to be worried about whether it's a .com or .net. I dunno why I let that start bothering me. I had sort of worried that people might be typing it in directly, and that was one reason I leaned toward MiscBytes at one point - because people will type in .com and also that the name was shorter. But one thing I really wondered was what name people would find more appealing, so it's beginning to sound like InternetLiving will win. Thanks for your help!
internetliving.net sounds great! Today even .info domains are doing equally well so forget about that TLD stuff man! Content is king, and good SEO can bring a .info domain on first page of google, let alone .net and .org! Just go ahead and build some solid content, with a sleek design, and you'd see tremendous traffic on your blog within no time!
Thanks man! I got started on it last summer then other obligations took over and I never went back to it. I've been creating niche sites and been living on the web a lot (Google Cr-48 pilot) so I have a lot of posts I can write!
Yes, thanks - I'll check on it from time to time. They totally ignored me when I tried to make an inquiry, so this may be one of those companies that just sits on domains for years.
Oh yes - I've only been learning about keywords and their importance for the past year or so. Two years ago I was choosing domain names for blogs because I thought they were "cute" or memorable, but to get traffic from Google having keywords in the domain name make such a huge difference. Thank you!
I really appreciate the guidance. I didn't know which was more important - the keywords but .net or the length of the name and .com. Now I can proceed and write all those posts I've had floating around in my head all this time!
Go for InternetLiving.NET It much easier to remember, and as you said it’s got your keyword in it. No-brainer really.
Thanks directfuture. I don't know why I'd thought that .net "ruined" everything. Now I feel lucky to have gotten that domain!
I'd agree Internetliving sounds good and is easy to remember - ok .com would be a little better for seo side of things - you are already on page 1 in search results though you mght struggle to overtake the similar sounding .com that appears at the top - but is that important ? at least you are page 1 and not too far down.
Thanks! Page 1 sounds great to me. That other site is a reference "all about the internet" so people can see the difference there - and hopefully click on my site.
