I read that some marketing gurus said that it's not wise to add your URL to Google, or any other submission index. Can anyone explain why, and if this is true or not?
It's not that it's unwise, but it isn't necessary. I keep saying it, but get a couple quality inbound links and your site will show up in all of the important search engines within hours or days. It's much easier than spending hours filling out forms or wasting time with free submission services. I haven't submitted a site in probably 5 or 6 years.
1EightT is right. Google search bot works very hard. It is not necessary to submit your site directly to Google any more. Simply having a link to a site in your signature is more than enough.
I agree. I submitted 2 sites to major SE's and did not start getting indexed for 2-3 months. With a good inbound on 5 other sites it took 1-3 weeks. Could have been a fluke but in the last 7 years I have been just focusing on letting the SE's find them through other links from quality inbound links.
Wow! The Information in this thread taught me something New. I've spent some bucks in submitting my site to various search engines. But it hasn't brought me a single visitor from 95% of them. I'll advise my downline to avoid this mistake atleast.
I wouldn't really call submitting your URL to Google a mistake. It takes 5 seconds and doesn't have any negative effect. It might be redundant, but it's not going to screw your site.
Let Gogle find you using the links to your site. Make an sitemap and submit it. This may help better then submiting to Google.
I tried submitting my site today using all those submit 40 sites to search engines for free, just for fun. I got about 50 submission emails and I earased them all. I dont have time to be doing that!
yep takes few seconds to submit it google , but some peoples spend days and days to submit sites in small search engines , like thousands of search engines .
I have not submitted my link to google and all websites are ranked!!!! I reckon good backlinks will do this for you...
Initially I had paid, say around $5 for submitting each my site to some 300 search engines. Until now, in my records, there is no traffic on any of my sites from 295 of them. I think manually submitting to large search engines like google and yahoo is not a problem. Its the paid submissions I'm concerned about.
all my sites are indexed without submiting these to google: links, sigs, directory submission, articles with my link, are some of what i do to index my sites. to my opinion, the major problem for a site is to get a high ranking.. (but this is off topic)
