I buy .us all the time. It actually saves me time so i don't have to choose a location for google webmaster tools.

That's not true. google and bing do NOT own all TLDs. Your examples works only in well known sites. You have to admit, 90% of internet users are familiarized with .com much more than any other TLD. After they type in the address bar the domain name, they immediately type .com (even in cases they don't know the TLD of the domain). Bye
