I just received a newsletter from Word Tracker talking about the latest Panda Update, and how some websites have experienced a 50% drop in organic traffic from Google. In this article, the Panda Update is discussed in detail and it teaches you how to survive it: http://www.wordtracker.com/academy/...Google_Panda_Farmer3_10_2011&utm_medium=email See, I've been warning webmasters for years not to rely too heavily on Google as a traffic source. In the past, I built and optimized websites which in some cases got 80% of their traffic from Google, and when I asked people here on Digital Point about it, they didn't see a cause for concern. If your site gets more than 50% of traffic from Google, you should indeed be concerned. The Panda Update is designed to get rid of "low quality" sites according to Matt Cutts, but as this article shows, some good sites have been hit as well. This is why I've warned webmasters for years to avoid relying too heavily on Google as a traffic source; all of my websites now get less than 30% traffic from Google. I didn't get hit by Panda but even if I did, it would not wipe me out, I would just be a bit bruised.
Thanks for the share mate....However my site received an increase amount of Organic traffic after the update....
If you are not getting 80-90% of your traffic from Google you should be concerned. Give your head a shake!! where do you believe you should get your traffic from ?? Yahoo /Bing ?? Pleeeeeeaaaase. Panda update is about quality search so i guess if your site is copied crap and relying on spam yes then you should get your taffic fom other sources.
Thanks for sharing -- But even if you get 50% less traffic from Google, you will probably still get more traffic than you would ever get from Yahoo or Bing, no?
Lol, I did the thing they said in the guide to check if my site had been hit. (yes it's an US site). To my surprise the visitor amount from US had increased by 100%!
Google Traffic is one of the best converting traffic. You should be concerned if you are NOT getting traffic from Google
I checked for my site, and my SERPS form the US have significant increased since this algorithm change - and I like to consider my sites as high-quality with original content. So I'm very optimistic for when this 'panda' update (ok, what the hell does a panda have to do with a SERP algorithm?) hits the rest of the world
I don't know. Maybe pandas = high-quality websites. Because there are only few pandas left and only a few high-quality websites. So Google want more pandas - more high-quality websites? Just a random though, probably way of. Maybe they just like pandas!
Thanks for sharing. I always say we have to evolve with Google. It's used to be monthly now it looks like weekly LOL
A site with *really* badly written content, even if it is unique, will now trip the same 'Johnny illegible' filters they implemented to weed out the 'collaborative' spinner sites. Which explains why lots of people are whinging about their 'good' sites getting caught. Hand written crap is as bad as badly spun crap, kiddies. Which was only to be expected, of course. After all, it's not hard to catch bad grammar. In fact, it are real simples.
I plan to use Google Translate to build a site in a foreign language. Basically I use Google Translate to translate new English article to foreign language article. Not sure if in this case, it is considered badly written content.
I would have to agree here. -- -- After the chang my main sites traffic and Adsense revenue went way up so I'm happy. Google is trying to get rid of the garbage web sites and I'm glad. They hurt all of us that have quality sites... Well , not no more TG... Good job Google!
Another agree. I am also seeing my traffic gone up. And yes Google traffic contributes 60-70% of my traffic. Yahoo/Bing and others are peanuts comparing to Google traffic.
Google is just too much traffic to NOT make them your primary focus. You just have to have quality sites... =p Though it is good to do what you can to get traffic from other SE's too.
This was the purpose of the update...........to weed out bad quality sites in favor of good sites with high quality content. The trouble is, it isn't perfect and some good sites have been hit. I haven't seen much of a difference in the change of my traffic.
I don't know about you or others here.............but I didn't quit my job 6+ years ago to become self employed............ just so I could turn around and work for Google. Allowing Google to send 80% of my traffic means that Google controls most of my profits, and what happens if my site gets Google Slapped? What happens if Google "mistakenly" thinks that my site is spammy, provides poor content, and I get unfairly targeted? My very business would be in jeopardy. There are many sources of alternative traffic. Directory submissions, traditional banner advertising, PPC, links from complementary sites, and social media are all alternative sources to Google. Plus, you should be thankful for Yahoo/Bing otherwise Google would have a monopoly, and if you've read any books on economics, you know that monopolies are bad. I optimize my sites for Google, don't get me wrong, but I will not allow Google to send me 80% of my traffic as I did in the past, and what I've found is that as a webmaster you have to fight against Google, because the more non-Google traffic you get, the more traffic Google sends, and this is good in my eyes so long as the traffic from Google doesn't comprise a majority of my traffic.
