That's so random. You just pick a random SEO guy out of the thousands that come here? Use meta keywords and meta description, always give your images an "alt" text. Always make sure your logo is linked to the main page of your website. Try to code clean and use the right html tags(for example, <h1> should be used only for your header). Set a goal for yourself, obtain X amount of new incoming links per day or week and stick to it. It could be signing up for a new forum(profile+signature) or submitting to a few directories but always meet your goal, consistancy is good Enjoy.
