Two days ago, I'm trying to create a database sales mini-site, and go to insert tables into my page to setup image/text. All of a sudden, DW throws an error about a sharing violation, and then another error message about encountering a fatality (you know the rest). OK. I just put it down to "maybe it's time to reinstall". After a clean reinstall (I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit), I go to insert tables again, and the same thing happens. Since Google and I are best friends, I get a partial solution by finding out that both Vista and Windows 7 BREAK the table function. And then after, I stumble on this AMAZING solution set out by damage3dinc.net which involves replacing the Table.htm file (after you unhide system folders). I can't dig up the page right now, but thought it prudent to provide a link to the very file DreamweaverMX-FixTable-Vista-Win7.zip so you can get that fix poppin' on your local machine. IT WORKS GREAT!!! I actually had ignored this fix because I wasn't sure about the file paths being navigable as outlined in the accompanying text file (and Windows 7 is notorious for hiding paths deep to things considered system folders). After not finding anything suitable, I went back and followed the text-file instructions to the letter. My table insert function is now restored and I don't have to worry about the reinstall dance or trying to get an upgrade. I'm sure this is going to help a lot of you that just discovered this problem while using both Vista and Windows 7.
A little while ago, I thought that I'd upgrade to DW 8 since I'm now actively constructing applications and I didn't want to try to skip all the way up to CS5 at the moment. Turns out, Macromedia/Adobe neglected to mention that DW 8 wasn't really made to run under Windows 7 (having been developed under the XP OS), so, I had a mini-meltdown trying to combat the usage bugs and whatnot. I decided to save myself the hassle and re-install DW MX 2004 since it worked like a charm for me and played well with my other development tools in the chain. I went right for the Extensions.txt file to help DW MX recognize PHP 5/6, and then remembered the stinky table insert problem that I'd advised on here.As the search engine result leading to the answer here on DPF is second on the first page of the search, I thought it prudent to bump and update the thread as I'm sure there are people still looking for it. When I realized that the files required for the answer were no longer available, I logged in to correct this error. And this is why I archive all my stashes of info and solutions, since I had to find a 5-yr old disc with the files on it. Dreamweaver MX doesnt work correctly on Vista and Windows 7 - it breaks the insert tables function. To fix, drop the "Table.htm" file included with this text file, into the following directory:c://users/admin/AppData/Roaming/Macromedia/DreamweaverMX/Configuration/objects/common*** note: Change c:// to whatever drive dreamweaver is on. Change admin to your windows user account where necessary. Also, might wanna back up the original beforehand, just in case (mine was completely blank, though). You might also need to set your folder view to show hidden files and folders, as by default, application folders are hidden. To do so, go to organize/folder and search options/view and find Hidden files and folders. Click the radio next to Show hidden files, folders and drives. Hit Apply, or ok and they will now show up. Code (markup): I've included the attachment for the text instruction file AND the Table.htm file. Follow the text to the letter and you'll be fine. Funny how I have to go back to DW MX 2004 - and I just don't care - I want this app finished !!!!
I agree. I've encountered that before - but after switching my OS to Win Vista, I never encountered a problem like that again.
