I have a domain, I have hosting - now I need you know, a website

Alrighty. I'm coming from a host where everything was included - widgets, drag & drop templates - the works. You didn't have to know much about site building at all. Well, that service is about to expire and I want to move on because I don't like the platform anymore.

As I said, I have a domain and I have hosting - but I don't have a site. I don't even know how to begin. I've been looking for software that is essentially drag and drop, site building for dummies, a few clicks and you're done...but to no avail.

If someone could point me in the direction of something easy like that, I would appreciate it.

    Please and thank you.

If you are going to be doing or modifying your website often, I recommend you to learn how to make websites from scratch. Why? because you will have more flexibility to represent your ideas on your site.

If you keep doing drag and drop, you will never start learning the really basic stuff. (witch is a must to develop websites)

    Start today!!!

Yes, Wordpress is the best blogging platform and there are many tutorials on the internet to get started. Also when you go on with drag and drop like things your site may not be Search engine optimized... You wont get much flexibility for SEO in drag and drop platform... So start learning Wordpress... You can easily set up a basic site within 2 to 3 days by urself...

If you need any help for setting up wordpress on your site then let me know... I will do it for free... I will setup the basic site using wordpress and install wordpress pluings...

You can just start adding the content to your site... Wordpress also has some drag and drop features like widgets... You don't need to know much about HTML and PHP, but once after you start you can learn them... w3schools.com is the best site to start learning HTML, CSS and PHP...

I will third the motion for WordPress.

The easiest way to install it is through Fantastico if your hosting provides that. If they don't and you're a beginner, find other hosting. Hopefully you can move easily. Or some have other scripts to auto-install it for you. You can install Wordpress manually and it isn't hard but it looks hard for a beginner. You might pull your hair out a bit.

Thecnntuts sure made a generous offer but I'd be very careful. Not offense techntuts, I'm sure you know there are bad people out there. I'm sure you are not one of them but if you are, no way to know. :)

You're going to have some hair pulling moments if you're like the rest of this learning this.

One person said to do it from scratch and that is really great if you have the time to learn and learn a lot. I wish I could do more of that myself. I wish I could develop themes for Wordpress but if you're looking to make money, you're better off spending time on marketing and content than development. Though having development skills would be incredible.

If you're building a one page website it isn't to hard to learn to do. There are free courses that will teach you that.

First of all I am not such a person who want others to be screwed up...I dont get anything doing so... I understand how difficuilt is it to create a website without know what a website is... I have faced these problem as a beginner. I have different website like techntuts.org, etuts.org and many other website but not started them because of time shortage...But i created a niche site some days back lcdtvpricesinindia.info I am now writing some article about the how to guides to help newbies so that they themself can install wordpress...

And for your kind information i have installed WP for many people both manually and also through fantastico... Installing WP through fantastico isnt that difficult... She can do that will just one single click... So its just the trust that comes into play here... If see trust me then i can do it for her otherwise i can tell the procedure so that see can learn and install her self at the same time...

Did you read what I said? I said you probably have great intentions! I was in no way attacking you. I just wanted her to know to be careful. I wouldn't let someone I didn't know in my Cpanel. Would you? i said what I said because may not realize the danger in it. Notice, I didn't say don't do it. I said be careful

I thought your offer was very nice.'

Actually it's not just one click but yes, it is easy that's why I told her about it. It is the manual install that can appear a bit complicated to someone that is new. Yeah, you didn't really read what i said.

I do read what you posted... You said her to be careful and i did not go against you... i just said i am not a person of that kind and i did not say that you are blaming me that i would cheat her... I also know that there are many people who wants to cheat and you are doing the right thing by making them aware of the type of scams people do...

And one thing as you said "no one will allow to share their cPanel without knowing or trusting them"... So please don't misunderstand me that i misunderstood you...

think you guys are in the wrong forum! :)

But yeah i agree about wordpress being a good starter if you want to crack on with things for now. If it was me, I would also start looking at some tutorials, I found tutvid.com very good for the Dreamweaver tutorials to get started with basic html and css - But if you do end up using Dreamweaver (an excellent platform) dont use dreamweaver tabs to create divs etc - get used to writing the elements from scratch (you'll know what i mean one day).

This is how i did it, now i design templates part time.

Eh, well. I cancelled the hosting and domain transfer. There's no way I can master this in less than the 2wks I have left where my site is. So now I'll either be renewing against my better judgement - or moving to, yet another, all-inclusive drag and drop platform.

In regards to WordPress - I already have blogs there. I don't know how that relates to a website. I manage them on-site, not through something I DL'd.
