Why all the misinformation?

I just signed up for this forum yesterday but have been in the industry for over 10 years.

That being said, I've got a few questions about this forum.

    1. Why is there so much wrong information? I don't mean something being worded wrong but just flat out incorrect information that is being pushed as fact. Every thread I open has 1 or 2 correct answers (if that) and 10-15 answers that are just flat out wrong.

    2. Why the hell does everyone feel the need to answer a question 15 different times in one thread? I opened a rounded corners thread where the second post was the 100% correct answer. It covered all browsers and even how to make it work in IE. Below that post are 10-15 posts where other attempted to answer the question, all of them being wrong, AFTER the question was already answered correctly. What the hell?

Aside from that, thank you to the few of you who are providing good information and helping to support this industry.

I'm seeing that. It's so disturbing to see blatantly incorrect information posted by someone who is advertising web design and/or SEO/SEM in their signature.

Honey, I dont think its the reason what w3bmaster is saying, I guess these guys are just here to increase their number of posts. May be they are in some misconception that the more number of posts they have under their belt, they will have more signature links and more backlinks to their concerned sites. I get lot of times annoyed by just one single liner comments. In fact that single link consists of hardly two to 5 words :D

I think it's a mixture of both. They are "total noobs" who simply do not know the correct answers. The majority of them also have some affiliate link or similar in their signature, looking for a high post count.

I guess my question would be why is there no moderation on here? If there was some moderation taking place, we would not have so much incorrect information and spam floating around these forums.

    Top reasons for bad posts.
    1. People wants to up their post count.
    2. People overestimate their knowledge.
    3. Spam.

There are a lot of them here and I see what you're talking about.
There is also a lot of people starting crap threads trying to sell things or to share information
that is stolen from other websites so that they get the credit for it.

If you start a thread and get an answer, then create a post saying "question answered, thanks!" or something.
Preferrably in big bold red letters. This will stop some people from posting stupid comments.

I am a total noob looking to gain more knowledge. As with anything, I guess I'll have to get multiple references and confirmation regarding any information I receive.

    Grimm, thanks!

To the other guys in this thread who are looking to learn, don't let my post scare you off. There is a lot of great information on this website, you just have to filter through the bullshit to get to it. I've noticed in most posts where people ask a question, there is almost always a correct answer, but there is usually 10 - 15 incorrect answers as well.

I think because here few people are only to learn, that is why they just put those information which they think are the correct one

Spammers and clueless people trying to up their posts. Plus these posts are coming all over the world and some people have no idea what they are talking about. I haven't gotten annoyed by them yet, but it is pretty tasking correcting stupid posts all day long...

It's not exactly a "misconception". To a small extent, having more backlinks has its benefits. Also, clicks-throughs increase with number of posts.

I don't allow signatures on my forum. That's the only solution that I know to reduce such spam.
