I once tried it and it worked - i sent the link to 10 friends on Gmail and asked them to forward it to few other friends with Gmail and Hotmail accounts.

The site got indexed in just 2-3 days :)

If you are only looking only to get indexed, you could submit your website to search engines so they'll come crawl your website, and if everything is ethical in it you'll get indexed.

If you were talking about getting high ranked, there is no "quick" trick, everybody knows SEO is something that takes a lot of time. Also, there isn't one trick to learn to get ranked high, it's a combination of multiple techniques that eventually after a few weeks or even months, you'll be ranked high.

When I create a new website I usually just submit it to the search engine to get it crawled. If you dont wanna do that just put it in the blog roll of the other blogs you own like I do.

    Thanks for your replies

@metaseo yes it's the first one-purpose just to get indexed, not ranked.
I posted something on CL and it only lasts for 7 days. I am just "testing" something but need that page to be indexed for the test and it's not. Pages slide down so fast there that they get lost and not indexed so I was just trying to see if there was a way to get that page indexed within a couple of days.

Yes there is a way, submit your website to search engines and they will send their spiders to crawl your website and get indexed. Copy paste this URL in the address bar "http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl"

Put it in your digitalpoint signature, this site gets crawled every 15 minutes or so.

The gmail and hotmail thing is a complete coincidence and irrelevance - search bots do not crawl email.

It is true, search bots does not crawl email.
However, when you receive a link via gmail and click it, it is first being logged by google and only then redirected to the target URL.

This log is used for keeping track of which sites you visit in order to build your interest profile.
Right after determining the target site, Google checks to see which category it belongs to. When Google see that he knows nothing about this site it is added to the crawling queue.

I welcome you to test this and see for yourself.
In any way, adding your site to the crawler queue ("submitting your site") has a negative effect, at least for the start after Google determines it's quality.

I submit new sites I want indexed to a a variety of very popular online business forums and they are usually indexed within a day or two. I either put them in my signature of favourite links section.

First of all, do proper on-page optimization of your website and then create a sitemap of it and submit it. It is very helpful in fast indexing of any website. After that you can try off page optimization tactics like social bookmarking, article submissions, forum posting, blog posting, blog commenting etc. These tactics are very effective & helps lot in fast indexing of site.

I'm not at all sure about this - any bot that gmail uses should be separate from the search engine bot. However, as it has been rumoured that the adwords bot informs the search engine bot by accident, not design, of the existence of urls, I'll reserve judgement.

I was just going to let you know that Twitter should do the trick. The key is to just get your site where the Google Bots will be, doesn't matter how. Obviously Google loves Twitter so that works wonders. Along these sames lines if you submited a link to your site to a bunch of RSS directories that would probably work as well. Another trick I've seen but haven't test yet is submiting you site to domain vaulation type websites:

    http://www.cubestat.com/[yourdomain]
    http://isthatsitedown.com/[yourdomain].html
    http://indexer.us/info/[yourdomain]/
    http://www.hapli.com/[yourdomain]
    http://www.surcentro.com/en/info/[yourdomain]
