Hello, After checking out the site I found it a bit difficult to understand. If you want to get people involved it should be easy to use. Probabaly the best thing is to have a page telling people how to join, what the site is all about, and how to use it to their advantage. Usually this is all on an index page. As for advertising... Writing articles in relation to the website can give you a decent flow of traffic for a long time. It's best to submit to the well known article directories like ezine articles. Another way of gaining new exposer could simply be adding comments to blog sites. Just find some blog sites and write a decent comment related to the post. Other ways of advertising: PPC - (can be costly, but traffic is almost instant) Traffic Exchanges - (mostly used with the make money niche) Facebook and Myspace advertising - (basically ppc, just on their own site) BuySellAds - (network for banner and text ads)
What is the point of the site? Why should I use it? What purpose does it serve? These are all questions you should be able to answer concisely. I certainly had no clue as to what it was for. You can zoom in and out of images, so what? First looking at the page, it just looks completely blank, with no idea what the hell one is supposed to do.
While browsing the site i found that you have put together so many things at one place, now you have to assign them properly, to me it seems there is a potential, you need to have do some makup on it Coming to the marketing part This is a college project, spread this site thru university notice boards, facebook university community and so on
Getting a dedicated loyal follower community is most important so start with registrations. let user store pics , allow for a limited amount. Allow users to hotlink the file and soon you will find yourself getting unimaginable traffic.

Thanks! All these things already exist in my site. I allow pretty high storage volume: nearly 2 Gigapixel for each user. Users can easily hotlink the file, send the link to friend etc. and also make the link searchable by any of the internet search engines (like Google, Yahoo etc). The user just enters his/her content description to the link and it becomes searchable.
Writing lots and lots of articles featuring your main keywords and this will really increase your traffic.
try putting interesting parts of your website on Stumbleupon.com, I'm always coming across really random stuff on there!!
Doesn't work for me either.. but yeah start it with google ad is probably the best way to start off this site. Once you have enough traffic then start putting affiliate products in it.
