Be careful when you sign up for your 20% discount on their reseller package. I don't care if anyone has no issues with them the fact is, they are misleading with their 20% discount: Check it out yourself: http://www.hostgator.com/resellers.shtml
How exactly have you been mislead? (20% of $598.80 is $119.76) $598.80 - $119.76 = $479.04. I'm not seeing anything wrong with that, and the discount code 'SPRING' is not mentioned on the page you linked to.
?? Of course the discount code is there "Coupon Credit (SPRING | 20 Percent OFF!)" open your eyes. It doesn't matter now, after testing it out it seems the original price has been marked down already. However, that's not what LiveChat told me. They told the price is 20% off from $19.96/month = $191 (From their own mouth). I can't prove it since I already close the LiveChat window. Oh well, not my fault they hire someone who don't even know their own system. No wonder I got put on hold for ages???
No need for that, I assumed when you posted "Check it out yourself: http://www.hostgator.com/resellers.shtml" you meant the code was on THAT page...
Looks like we posted at the same time. From the page you posted above, "*Price reflects 20% off first invoice" which is indeed including the code. When you go to the next page, the code is included automatically. You're absolutely right that an additional 20% is not being taken off of the $19.xx price. If that's what Live Chat told you, then yes, they are being misleading.
Hey guys, I did speak to another LiveChat technician assistant and he clarified everything and also he apologized on behalf of the previous technician. The price is definitely marked down already. I want to close this thread but not sure how since leaving this thread might bring more harm to others. PEACE!
This will come to a surprise for some. Did anyone here purchase a reseller account from Hostgator and then had to verify the account by sending your License number, Photo ID, etc? The same applies to a paypal payment. Since when does a hosting company or any company asked for photo ID, license number, etc, for paypal or credit card?? I am in the process of canceling my transaction. I got nothing to hide, just never heard of anything like this before. Some might agree with their policy but I surely don't, definitely invading someone's privacy, I don't if it's a security reason on the transaction. Oh well, onto the next hosting company lol.
Sounds like your order was flagged as high risk, several things could have caused this and HostGator even state they randomly check orders. I don't see the problem, its not 'invading someone's privacy' - HostGator are a reputable company and will have to comply with relevant privacy laws when handling your data. PayPal accounts can be stolen, and obviously so can credit/debit cards. Not only that you could use their servers for malicious activities etc (granted, anyone signing up could, but generally high risk orders have more chance of doing something malicious).
?? If your not a customer then how would you know? Anyway, it doesn't matter now, I am getting a refund so I will leave it as that. PEACE!!
Know what? Obviously being the Managing Director of a hosting company myself, know how the industry works. The rest I got from a simple search on the HG support system.
We do yes, any order found to be 'High Risk' will be cancelled and refunded automatically and we send an email to the account owner informing them they will need to upload or send us via post a copy of Government Issued Photo Identification if they wish to reactivate the service. This way if the account owner does not want to verify, then they are completely free to move to another provider, without any further action required. Obviously being a registered company, we have to comply with strict Data Protection laws and we've never had any complaints from customers, all of whom fully understood why we ask for verification. Unfortunately the Hosting Industry is a major target for fraud, which is why procedures like this have to be put in place.
Well this is the first time hearing about it. Makes me wonder why my old hosting company is not doing it 'IX hosting'. I guess I'm better off going to a hosting company in my own country then. Sweet.
Different companies have different policies regarding the matter. Personally, I'd prefer to use a company that preforms fraud checks, as when done properly, will significantly protect against malicious users who can effect everyone on the server.
