Ya there are many different variables. I find it really hard to believe if that is the case.

You can't follow this chart because if it was true then one of my websites would be a PR3 by now but it's only a PR1. It's alll about quality of the links.

That's not how it works. The PR of the page linking to you and the number of outbound links on that page determine how much PR is added to your page. Those are the only two factors.

Agree with the other posters... you can't base your PR value on the number of links alone. Some links will be more (or less) valuable than others. For example, a link from a PR6 website could be worth the same amount as 100 X PR2 links (not saying this is an accurate number -- just an example showing how the value of links will vary)...

I have a PR 4 site. I submitted it to maybe 4 or 5 directories. Three of the directories are PR 8,7 and 5 and I couldn't be bothered checking the other ones. I don't think it has *any* backlinks outside of those ones.

Link is not so matter for the good page rank. The link should be from quality website. If you have the less link from the high quality website then you can gain good PR.

Backlink is just one of factors that affects PR, contents is another big factor. Like in a forum, there are threads that get PR2 or more though no one create backlinks for them..

False. Because page rank depends on both backlinks quality and amount.

Its the quality of the link and not just the quantity that makes up the PR... The story is that if you only need one PR7 link IBL to get yourself a PR5 but you need 16,803 incoming PR1 links to get to the same place..

Look at this chart , it talks about the number of links required to get certain pageranks. Its a bit of guess work in my book but may be on the right lines (ish)..

    Enjoy
