You can optimize images by adding Alt tag for them.
Alt tag will help your images to crawl. It will benefit your site in two ways for getting your images indexed and it'll also improve your site's on-page..

You also optimize the filename. Instead of img000.jpg you have keyword.jpg.

Give alt tag to every image. This would be helpful in easy crawling of images by search engines. More you can promote your blog over SMO sites to increase traffic. SMO is the best way for traffic increase.

I usually add related terms at Alt properties, and the image file name contains relevant keywords also

Some major search engine did not recognize images. Image alternate-text tags (ALT tags) are only indexed where the image is part of a hyperlink. However ALT tags are useful for non-graphical browsing and should be in use correctly.

I agree with all of the previous posts. If you host your photos somewhere else, it wouldn't hurt to tag those photos and make sure to have backlinks to your site.

If you use multiple image folders not just one named images it helps. Use multiple folders with names relevant to the images they hold.
This creates images categories. Make sure to put and index file in each image directory with a link to the page displaying the images.
Or if a user lands on the image folder url in will display a list of the image links on the page with no other results.

similar to the above ones but with a little difference; here is my trick that works perfectly for my site.
Here is my example: the file name should be related to the picture like: funny_blond.jpg and the alt tag should be SAME with the name like " funny blond" with this trick I got even more visitors from image search than the normal google search.
