Submit to directories is to time consuming. I'd recommend exchanging links with similar sites, and getting links on forums signatures.
I've seen most of this advice in other threads many times. Its all good. One related question I have... If I wanted to go from a new site to being on the first page of google results for a few keywords that are not extremely popular already, how many links should I get? Do I need like 100 blog posts per day + 100 forum signature posts per day, ect or what? How long would it take. This is assuming the content on my site is good and active.
