Working Ways to Get Traffic to Your Website

I thought I'd try something a bit different for once, instead of posting the old "x tips to get y thing" type thread, I'd see if I could create a thread where everyone posted a way to get a bit of traffic to your website. I'll post a few to get started with, but the overall goal is to just post at least one small way to get traffic to your website.

    • Make a Stumbleupon account. Stumble both users and actual things. Once you have about 200 of each stumbled, add something of your own and then keep stumbling.
    • Grab a twitter account and start following people. Make a few tweets using hashtags (like #twitter and the like.) Then drop your link with a relevant hashtag.
    • Put your website in your forum avatar. (Thought this works best with short websites, it's enough to fit a bit.ly link in.)
    • Start making comments on a blog, become an active reader and converser with the writer. Then offer to make a sort of "guest post" where one person writes for the other's blog and they exchange links.

Those are just a few tips to get the thread rolling, so share your tips at getting traffic to your website no matter how small they may be!

Write an ebook and post it on document sharing websites. That works well.
Also take advantage of websites such as Squidoo or Hubpages. Those can work well because your writing might appear besides other articles and someone might click on them.

Get your link on .edu sites as Google rates them as a trusted site. Just read through posts of a similar nature to your website and then make a comment with something useful no spamming it just ruins the net. At the end of your post write webmaster of www . yourwebsite . com and there you have a nice edu link provided you did a good job and submitted something useful the webmaster wont reject your comment

I'm currently writing an e-book and I will post each chapter on the internet. Mostly to get comments on what to change for the final version of my e-book.
Giving away free stuff is a great way to get acknowledgement and more users/clients/customers.

Offline martketing often seem to be forgotten nowadays, but if you're running a company which is build upon the local community then you rellay need to get those flyers+posters out. You might even want to hire a street team for this?

Yes this is a good one. But .edu and .gov both sites are more valuable and I prefer to get linking with both sites. But these sites are very strict and If you try to spam then your account will be banned from the sites.

This is a great tip. Web 2.0 pages also tend to rank very well for long tail phrases, which helps to get even more traffic.

e-books are a great way to get traffic as well. I'm actually doing a little experiment on the side writing a very detailed method to earn some cash and distribute the e-book via online readers like scribd and book torrent sites. Granted I have placed referral links, I've also opted to provide free alternatives beside each product. free e-books are also a great way to build reputation.

Flyers on car windshields, paying a few bucks to post a flyer on the window of a crowded store, even the old trick of printing up business cards and leaving them at the counter of a gas station works very well still. :D

There's a lot of debate about whether or not Google views .edu/.gov sites any different from other domains. I've always maintained that it's purely based on a simple type of layout coupled with the fact that there are very few outbound links and that any links to an edu or gov site would be in reference to it as an authority. Therefore they're more likely to be linked from sites with lots of linkjuice like Wikipedia. Just a theory, though.

SEO will help bring targetted traffic. Great & fresh content, SEO articles & real case-studies on constant basis are just a few examples of getting good quality, highly targeted traffic with loyal readers who will come back to your site again & again...

Build a persona on the word wide web, in this way by participating on several forums and blogs fellow forum posters and bloggers can recognize you might be a good way to interact with them and directly drive them to your site.

One tip I have is to download and install the All-in-One Wordpress SEO Pack. It lets you customize the individual titles of pages, keywords, etc. so you can do SEO on a page by page and even post by post basis.

This is a great way to do it. Establishing to people that you are both an expert on your blog and in your forum posts gives you website authority directly because you are the author of it. If people trust you, they're likely to trust your website.

The best way to go about this, in my own personal beliefs, is to give what you would like to get. So be helpful where you can, but never try to "help" with something you are unsure about.

Great, quality advice. The part that's the best, though, is that you pointed out how important it is to get visitors to come back to your website. :)

If you tailor on your Stumbleupon accounts who you choose to have as friends and what tags you use, you can find that you can get an absolute surge of traffic. Another bit of advice I have is to be a bit sneaky. Add something creative like "Ten Things That Prove You're a Man" if you want to get your readers to something like an upsell for a dating page. As a general rule of thumb, people will dismiss you if you're trying to simply sell them something instead of solving whatever problem they might have.
