Yahoo is the hardest SE to rank well in

In my experience, I have found ranking in Yahoo extremely difficult. My site has been up for 7 months and ranks well in Google for the keywords I've been targetting. However, in Yahoo, not only am I not on the first three pages of the keywords I'm on the first page of Google for, I have less pages indexed. I've also talked with others who've said they have problems with Yahoo, but I also know people who do better on Yahoo than on Google. I don't understand it, has anyone else had a lot of trouble?

Because google algo is diffirent to yahoo algo. Google is more concern on offpage seo while yahoo is onpage SEO

for what it's worth, I've got a number of sites in the yahoo directory and they still rank pathetically :)

arcticpro: google serps will get you more traffic, but yahoo & msn is more valuable; it generally converts quite a bit better.

Well I don't need Yahoo, I have Google. I think of Yahoo as a very strict bouncer to a pathetic club.

more like a crazy boucer, most seos' dont know what type of algo yahoo uses, they always make random changes in the serps and spammers always win there..

So far every single one of my sites is indexed in, crawled by, and ranks better on Yahoo, than Google. Go figure.

I guess you're kind of lucky, but it's better to be on Google.

See I have a somewhat new site and google doesn't have it ranked, yet I am recently on the front page and moving up for my keywords on Yahoo. It is funny b/c I was concentrating on Google and my buddy let me know the good news with Yahoo.

Well since nobody knows the Google or Yahoo algorithym you can't really "target" a search engine. What happens happens.

I agree. I think there search engine is a mess and I have just given up trying to understand how they work things. I am happy if I can get good ranks in Google and MSN. I didn't find Yahoo to generate much traffic even when I did get first page rankings, so I ain't that fussed.

I think one of the keys of Yahoo, they have their own list of authority sites, these are sites that have been in their index (or directory?) for a long time.
The sites they link to automatically gain credibility. If you can get links from a site that is say, 3 years old, that will often be enouph to get you in the game with them.
