Why buy from YOU when they can buy from Amazon/etc?

A big reason I never got into affiliate marketing is because this idea has popped in my head:

Why would ANYONE decide to buy from a 3rd party website with no affiliate to a product its selling (some of these websites just look spammy) rather then just buy direct from Amazon/Half knowing they wont be scammed and having the comfort of buying from a major retailer.

I never understood that. Why would "John X" want to buy a "32 TV" from "32inchtvsupplystore.net" rather then from Amazon.com.

Maybe someone can shed some light on products they have sold, money they have made, and so on

They dont buy from individual sites, they are just redirected to amazon site and the cookie is saved in buyers browser and sales gets recorded.

Huh! That thought (belief) is costing you big time. I can say that with certainty as my sole income is from affiliate marketing - and only about 2% is from Amazon.

Do a Google search and then apply some logic to your thought process. It's easy to find the figures for all sorts of products (digital, physical etc) sold by affiliates - it runs into the billions.

My particular favorite is promoting the services all online marketers must have to succeed online (autoresponders, ad and URL tracking, affiliate training etc) especially through multi-tier affiliate programs.

    I do OK :)

As the poster above me mentioned you can rank above Amazon for certain informational queries and then you can push people to Amazon. Anyway, besides that you can make sites that cater to niches and do a better job serving people in a particular industry than Amazon does.

Second on the niche. Let's say that you have a Outdoors & Camping blog that provide articles, gear review, links to maps, guides, member stories. You provide content that keep people coming back. You try building a relationship with them so that they will want to buy from you. And why not? They're already at your site when they see the product that their interested in. It's easier just to click on your link. And it costs the same.

Also, you are helping them with the buying decision and providing useful insight, feedback, etc. When you go to Amazon and search for tents for example, you get dozens of choices which can get overwhelming. It's been proven that buyers purchase more when given a reasonable number of selections, vs. an overwhelming number.

These are just two things that I can think of off hand? Anyone else have more?
