Hi, I just wondering and curious which is better way between - think for somebig idea and make it happen or - just do me too from old succes stories (blog, digg, fark, myspace, etc.) In my opinion, if we created something revolution that no one ever did before, it should be good and save a lot of costs to promote it ( Smile if people like it) and might be a big bang millionaire guys Very Happy but may consume too much of resources to develop it and taken some risky. If we do just "me too" we may not suffers much coz there many good free scripts out there. but seems to be easy for everyone to copy cat each other and we may pay high price to promote something that similar like each other to make it success. What do you guys think? cheers
Maybe come up with a big idea, but use some "me too" to help make money to help finance and promote the big idea.
A new idea is certainly a good way to go. Of course, if you don't market it right in the beginning, someone else can copy you pretty easily and steal your thunder. So be ready for it when you get started. It can also be effective to do something that's been done. It's the "build a better mousetrap" thing. If something's hot, ask youself - "What sucks about this site, and can I really do it better?" If they really are screwing something up or missing out on an opportunity, and you really think you can do it better (and again market it effectively before they or someone else catch wind of it and do it themselves), then run with it.
Aspiration always begins with big ideas. "Me too" stuffs are always seen as a dishonor when entrepreneur starts. What's tricky is when time goes by, big ideas get so difficult to market, selling out me-too stuffs starts to look attractive. When the mind can't handle the losing streak anymore, we'd start going into the safe zone. I'm sort of in the middle of that phase, and I hate myself for it.
I don't think doing something that's been done is always a "dishonor" for an entrepreneur. If it were, we wouldn't have major companies competing against each other, like Pepsi and Coke, Walmart and Target, etc. It happens online too. A lot of good ideas are inspired by an existing business model, where an entrepreneur feels as though they can do something better. And there's nothing wrong with that. It's why we have variety and competition. The only time I'd say it's dishonorable (and perhaps it happens a lot more online) is when someone creates a company (or site) precisely to mimick a larger one, and makes no attempt to improve upon the idea.
I don't get your point. Me too sites are for people (like me) not smart enough to come up with "somebig idea". If you have an idea, why would you even consider a me too site? I think you will find it very hard to come up with that original idea. I once thought I did, but it turned out I didn't do any research and just because I hadn't seen it before didn't mean there were already hundreds of those sites
Well an original idea is more than just the idea. Sometimes it's better to hold onto it for a little while until you have either the time or the money to launch that idea properly. If you don't in the beginning, it's too easy for others to see it and do it better than you immediately. So I can certainly see times where maybe not rushing that would be good. Starting other sites might be a way of testing their ability to run a site, or to raise money to launch their "big idea." And if you can do something that's been done, but honestly do it better than the current sites, market it effectively, etc... it could be just as good or better than a new idea, b/c there's already an existing marketing and they understand the concept... basically, the hard parts are kind of done for you, and you just have to research what was done. They both have their upsides and downsides.
time devision is important , use your 70% time to follow existing and successful idea's to get stable income , and rest 30% time on research and development ?
Theresa, Hijacking several threads with the same message isn't going to get you help. It's just going to tick people off. Best bet is to stop reposting this message, and instead start a new thread with an appropriate title to ask for help. Then maybe someone will answer it. Jenn
don't take it so hard man, I just ask because I dont' have "big idea" for now and I'm doing "me too" business but I'm trying to think some "big idea" and I found that may consume too much time and resouces to develop and make it happen. so I ask to let people share their idea. Of course, I don't hope to get a big idea with this thread just conversation. cheers, sxperm
I think if you have a big idea, then you can show it to V.C.. Maybe they will invest your project, and then you have money and everything will be easy. It's better to be an initator than a follower.
I think you dont need a big idea. All you need is a effective marketing plan and effective management of the web site.
Well thought out post. I agree with many of the things you said: <irony> waiting for more proxy, arcade and myspace sites to pop up now </irony>
