    Greetings,

It might sound very silly but I am not SEO expert and I dont' (get time) to read much about SEO stuffs.

Does Google penalize blogs which are not updated regularly? I have a portfolio website which is build on wordpress and the website has blog section as well. Now neither the website or the blog entries are updated regularly, blame it to me that I am unable to find time to post some good content.

    Appreciate any thoughts.

    Thanks
    Radiant

Then trend lately is to update your blogs less, use microblogging platforms/social networks more frequently, and save your blog posts for when what you have to say exceeds the size restrictions of the other platforms.

updating content of the website gets the google crawler easily and your page got cached instantly if you have nice content... if you are serious to get traffic then you should give the time to your site/blog. Then only u are going to get the desired traffic.

Google does not penalize for not updating content or your blog nor it will delete your post but if you post a copy content on your blog then their is possibility that Google will penalize you in his own way, he will not ask you for money but he will stop indexing you.

Actually google will not penalize your blog for the lack of updation. But it may not index your blog at the top or as earlier. Google loves new content. If you update your blog regularly, google crawls it and it helps in getting better rankings in SERPS. So lack of updation will not penalize your blog but it decreases the chances of high rankings. So if you are serious and want your blog to get some visitors its better to update it regularly with new posts.

With my Wordpress blog, I have it set to automatically create a Twitter post with a link back, and from Facebook too.

Updated content on website/blog is always liked by google and it helps in easy crawling and indexing of pages. But if you don't update your website/blog content, it doesn't mean that Google will penalized your blog or website. It simply means that you will not be able to get high search engine rankings.

Google doesnt penalize for not updating your blog but penalize when you go against their rules. Such as posting copied content on your blog and maybe unethical methods of Seo and things like that.

Google does not penalize blogs that have no upates. They will penalize those who do black hat SEO. Some of the activities that leads to penalties are Link Farms, Hidden Text
and unauthorized computerized and automated programs to name a few. Cheers.

Why? I understand your situation but my question to you would be, Why would Google 'penalise' blogs for not regularly updating content?

Is there some sort of discrimination in between blogs that are regularly updated and those who aren't?

And so, my answer is a simple NO. Google doesn't have anything against blogs who don't update blogs more often.

yes Google can penalize any website. You must be aware of its T&C. write unique content and make relevant links, in this way you never get banned and don't do interlinking in majority.

Google will not penalized your site for not updating it but the blog provider has the right to delete your blog specially if you are using free hosted blog.

Ofcourse not. Google won't penalize a site just because of being unable to update it content. It is only an advantage of having frequent updates on content, but that doesn't mean it's an advantage for those who don't update their content.

Google won't penalize for not updating the content.

Google may penalize your website rankings in organic search if you are
    - selling paid links
    - writing sponsored posts

I dont think Google penalize blogs. If anything sometime having a blog can help your site get indexed rather quickly. A good example of this is a blogspot.com blog.
