Day after day I browse this section of DP as most of us do and everyday I see the same thing, a minor annoyance but I feel it's time to do something about it: - Misleading titles and poor descriptions The addition of the iTrader feature helped confirm the reliability of a buyer/seller but there are still a few things that we could improve on to help us all, both buyers and sellers... I suggest that everyone who has an idea on how to improve this section of the forum contribute by leaving a reply to this post. Maybe if we can all agree on a few decent "basic" rules a moderator can put those ideas into a "Guidelines" sticky post. My suggestions: - Thread title MUST state the AGE of a site (NEW, 2 Months, 1 Year, etc...) - Turnkey/Cookie cutter sites MUST state this fact in the thread title Thanks for your time, please contribute. Pete.
Threads should also state: Link to the site!! No 20 pages with "send me PM" just to bump the thread. Auction or no auction If an auction, what is the end time? Is there a BIN? And how much? Is the content of the site unique or is it copied/scraped? I don't care about the PR. I care about backlinks. Will the backlinks stay after sale? What is required in time and efforts to administer the site? Average daily unique visitors.
Guys there is no point in doing this thread unless the DP owner is interested in implementing it. Perhaps we should check with him first? We have had several popular threads moaning about this forum and asking for a turnkey/newly developed sites sub-forum before but nothing happened.
Well the idea here is to see how many USERS/READERS of this section are interested in putting together some sort of "guidelines"... then if Shawn (or a moderator) want to add a guideline, they'll have an idea of how many people support the idea and what type of things to put in it. Besides, this is a good way to see how people wish to see the information and sales pitch organized... it WILL help sellers to take note. Pete.
Just wondering if you are selling or buying? If not, why this thread here? Geesh...go to suggestions and feedback for this thread.
Me? I buy and sell here... that's why I started the thread. I just think it might help a lot of people save time by opening only the threads that are relevant to what they are looking for... and yes I believe this is the most appropriate place for this thread. If someone wants to move it though, thats fine... but it's probably going to be more useful here.
The problem with trying to force certain things in all thread titles is what's important to some people isn't important to others. So to say you have to include something in order to post a thread seems a bit silly since not everyone is going to agree with what I consider important. Also, trying to actually enforce that would be crazy...
Thanks for the feedback Shawn. From a buyers point of view, and I think quite a few fellow buyers agree, there are way too many turnkey and "set up yesterday" style sites for sale. It makes it hard to wade through all these to find the good ones. Personally I think a $5 listing fee or similar would stop some of the "fly by night" crew, but that would no doubt be unpopular.
"yourdomain.com-Turnkey sites,x years and y months old, N num of uniques per day with $$ income is for sale". this is titel that u whant admin to force for all threads in sales ?, it saves time for buyers, but we cant expect complete info from titel itself.Same time some mebmers wantedly hide main info so there thread will be freq bumped, such type of threads must be watched.
Yes, that's true. However, everyone reading through the buy/sell have an idea of what's *most* important to them... it might be PR, age of site, revenue, turnkey or not, size, indexed pages, traffic, etc. I don't know what others are looking for most but I do know what I'd like to see and if everyone had an opportunity to give their input we'd probably see a few items that dominate. If enough people *really* want to see XXXX in the thread title then it just might be worth formulating a few basic posting guidelines. Obviously it would be impossible to force everyone to follow the guidelines but that's not the point... it's not a matter of *forcing* a standard onto everyone, it's about helping buyers and sellers organize the listing in an agreed upon format. A simple sticky post to *suggest* how one might format their post for BEST results and usability might actually help. Right now it's just a mess. The marketplace in general is very busy and threads are being started with totally irrelevant titles just to get attention regardless of the fact that most people reading them are NOT interested. I mean honestly, when you have a hyped up title, 500+ thread views and only 3 or 4 replies (and no buyers) this might be a little over the edge. Even if there was a simple template where one could "fill in the blanks" when forming a new post... it would help, hell I'll even draft one up if you're willing to give it a shot. Pete.
Why not just leave it up to the sellers? I don't (personally) care if they lack the skills in creating their title. Ultimately it's their own loss, and an advantage to sellers that provide better info.
If we did create a turnkey/brand new sub-forum I would happy to volunteer my time to moving threads and I'm sure you could get a few more volunteers from the buyers in that area. It's just that DP has become so popular D) that you can't see the wood for the trees now in the for sale forum.
I definitely agree with Shawn's point of view. It's up to sellers and buyers provide enough information to close a deal, and the way they do it is up to their self-promotion skills.
I think a fill in the blanks option when you start the new thread would solve most of the problem for instance the first checkbox would say WTB [ ] WTS [ ], which could appear at the start of the title. Then simple fill in text boxes, ie Uniques [ ] Revenue [ ] etc If you don't want to disclose these details just write "pm me" in the box. Or have a checkbox that would fill all the fields with "pm me". By not having the fields mandatory you wouldn't be forcing buyers/sellers into anything, it would just make it easier for them and you could be sure they wouldn't leave anything out. It would also help buyers to evaluate the thing for sale as everything would be in the same format. Not sure how hard it would be to implement but I'm sure this would solve most of the B/S/T problems.
The head Bubba here has spoken, and when the head Bubba speaks, we should all listen. So continue on with your suggestions if you please, just keep in mind that the head Bubba has spoken and that will be the law.
