It is simply not possible if you didnt have anything installed like GPS. however i do suggest that you file a police report but again you wont get anything. Sorry to hear of your loss

can't you locate it by serial number if soneone tries to sell it ? because they stole my box i bought it in and i am thinking that they will try to sell it

Bastards! I once had one stolen by a beggar. And I just got it from a pc repair workshop, so it was in perfect order! Luckily I removed any info, that's what usually is even more valuable than the laptop itself. Now I am more careful and often use those security cables. Maybe they should make some kind of trojan that makes the laptop to show up once on the net... Good luck and sorry to hear the story!
But not all thief knows Mac address. They're thief so I assume some of them dont know about it. What they do best is to steal someones belonging. If you suspect someone then go investigate for yourself but report it first to the police about your laptop so that if someone is caught with similar cases having a laptop on his possesion then you can easily claim the laptop because you have already reported it to the police( if its yours). Its actually an SOP to report it to the police if someone stole your belongings.
thief is a victim of stealing intellectual property. Microsoft will work there best to catch the thief on behalf of you.
