Its very simple. Choose the category in which you want to submit the website and then click on "Suggest URL" (which is the third link from the left in the gray bar of links at the top of the webpage) and fill the required fields and click on the button "Submit". Thats it.

Look for a category that fits your site and has an active editor. That will increase the chance that your site gets listed sometime in this century.

Actually getting into dmoz is hard. First of all you need to select exactly appropriate category. If page is non english than you need to submit to world and down there to the right category. But even if all is done right, the chances are very slim.
Once you submit, its a waiting period atleast few months and if you submit once again meanwhile, you get pushed to the back of queue.
But as i see it, quality sites with domain age over few years have better chance to be approved. I submitted lots of sites and only few of those got in. Those who did, all had 3 or more years old domain.

Much of the info you'll be given on this subject by well meaning people has been obtained by them in the same fashion as when ancient man saw his first eclipse and surmised that the moon-god became angry and ate the sun.

Read the documentation on the subject site, submit according to the directions shown, move on.

Bottom line... dont bother! Rather get your site listed on pages like www.aboutus.org or www.squidoo.com ect...
Dmoz is a joke! Absolutely no functionality. Either dmoz`s editors dont wanna embrace new competition or dmoz actually is a lost cause. Either way, dont worry and dont long for dmoz listing.

DMOZ is a group of hobbyists enjoying their spare time, not for financial reward hobby. We are not in competition with anyone. We offer a service to people wanting to use the largest human edited directory of categorised data for searching the net. We have no interest in directories that look for listings to give value to sites listed, we have no interest in directories that want payment to review sites. The model is different we want to pursue a hobby with a defined goal and being in competition is not the goal. Sorry if you confused us with something else.

I'm pretty sure that Filter57 is not confused at all, as you just showed they were correct in that 'Either dmoz`s editors dont wanna embrace new competition or dmoz actually is a lost cause'. so thanks!

However, you are going against your sig again... if you are NOT a representative of the ODP please stop speaking for them by using words like WE, US, or referring to the ODP as a whole.

Its just as bad as someone else saying that ALL editors are worthless and corrupt.

    1Visit the DMOZ directory website.

2 Review the top-level categories and click on the most appropriate category to fit the website that you will be submitting.

3 Choose a subcategory, which are located below the alphabet links in the top center of the page. Since many categories are
extensive in size, there may be many subcategories from which to choose.

4 Continue to choose subcategories until you are at the lowest possible category. Although not always, it will generally be a small category with no more subcategory links at the top.

5 Click suggest URL which is the third link from the left in the gray bar of links at the top of the webpage.

6 Read the guidelines and rules thoroughly that are on the website submission page. In step one, a link is given to submission policies and instructions which should be carefully read so that your website submission form is correctly filled out.

7 Fill out the submission information so that it is complete while following all of the submission guidelines. The category should already be filled in with the category that was chosen. Be sure to also include your email address and user verification.

8 Read the Submission Agreement and once complete and you agree with it, press submit.

9 Wait for the website to be indexed. All of the website submissions for each category are reviewed by volunteers who spend their time to review the website submissions

    10 Do not re-submit

    11. It can take from a few days to a few years for a review for a possible listing

12 Do not expect to hear if your site has been accepted or rejected, call back every few months, if you wish, put your URL (minus the www) in the DMOZ search box, press the button and it will tell if/where it is listed.

I've tried to get into DMOZ so many times, but I never seem to hear anything back from them. It seems to be so hard to get into DMOZ. I suppose that is a good thing in a way.

Please don't re-submit it is against DMOZ guidelines and does not help you, it may get you banned. Also we do not inform people if we list their site. Just pop back every few months, put your URL (without www) into the search box and see if it is listed. remember it might well get moved if you have not offered it to the correct category. Also remember it can take from a few days to a few years for a review for a possible listing and if it follows DMOZ guidelines especially the ones about unique content it will get listed at the review.
