How big of a deal do you consider this?

So I just wanted to know if I should consider this a huge accomplishment or not

Ranking no.4 on a keyword with 300 MILLION results

How many pages google returns for a certain term is not really an indicator of how hard something is to rank so your question is largely moot. I have seen stuff with 10,000 returns that is freaking brutal to rank.

    Hope that helps,
    Nigel

Well I'm in the link building business and the whole ranking gig and thats what I thought at first as well....

but then I saw some sites that are supported by literally 100k other sites plus dig plus dmoz plus i dont know what else...on the first page....and my site is sitting right there smack in the middle of if.

so i thought id come here for a logical reason for me not to believe this is a good thing lol

btw keyword is a VERY general term for ART and Design

Oh well its clearly a good thing presumably lol... Without a link to what you are talking about I am sorta flying blind really. Links that are relevant and merit based are way better but if you are knocking off folks with dmoz listings you have clearly done something right.

    nicely done regardless,
    Nigel

Does it bring great traffic =? monry
    Then it's a good acomplish
If it doesn't bring good traffic (awesome if 300 milion results) ....then is useless ...

The volume of the search engine "results" can be very misleading and is not a reliable indicator of success. For example, let's take two popular search terms — poker and real estate. They are obviously not related, but let's put them together in a search for poker real estate. In Google it comes up with 12,000,000 results.

However, no one is searching for poker real estate, even though it gets 12 million "results". Google Adwords shows the search volume for that phrase so low that it is unmeasurable.

So pay very little attention to the size of the "results" in a Google search. You'll get better info from Google Adwords or WordTracker.

Anyway, instead of showing off just work and get no.1 !

    Good job tho.

Very well said. The # of results tell you nothing about the competitiveness of a keyword. Look at metrics like PPC bids and whether other websites are targeting the same keyword.

quantity of search result mean nothing, the key factor need to be considered is search volume, not the number of search result.
because only rank good in keyword with good search volume will give you traffic
