Do subpages hold as much authority as the homepage in Google serp?

When making a niche site should i use my most valuable keyword as the homepage
because google will give more authority to the homepage? The reason i ask this is
my least valuable keyword would make a nicer homepage ... go figure :p

Usually, no - your homepage will generally have the most authority overall as it will generally acquire most links (naturally or otherwise) from external sources and also internal linking structure (most sites have a link back to the homepage from every page). If you deep link into your site however, using your most valued key phrases to the relevant page then there's no reason why internal pages cannot hold as much authority as the homepage.

Google give much authority on SERP for it is the front face or representative of the entire site. But I'm sure Google is giving much attention and authority too on subpages by means of those one line site links on serp.

Google gives same importance to all pages, either it is home or inner one. Its upon you which you choose for your most important keywords. Generally people use them on home page because by default home page is linked with maximum pages of your site and other people love to link your home page rather than inner. If you can provide your inner pages the same linking and liking by others feel free to choose an inner one.

Pageranking is actually, most of the time host or subdomain ranking. Therefore: mostly no.

Though Homepage is the root page to all your services and products, majority of web results are from Internal/Sub-pages only. One simple reason is: online searches are not limited to single word(nokia, pizza hut, google etc..) and this is proportional to the web crawlers ranking function that displays information from many deep links/internal links not just the homepage(nokia.com,pizzahut.com,google.com).

For example: If you have just one thing to offer from your website then limit it to homepage. If you have more than one item to explain, then Sub-pages or internal pages are used as the options to spread your services/products' information/content widely. It doesn't mean that the authority of your homepage is spread to them or the authority of your homepage is diluted. You are just creating a specific page to tell about specific information/product/service about your business.

If you find your main business keyword as the Domain name then go for it if not go for alternate options like: hyphenated Names to main keyword etc..

Conclusion: Keyword ranks are not permanent. If you want to rank in Google's SERP, you need to make your website/page the most relevant, popular and fresh to the given keyword.

    All the best.

May I know why did you talk about PR, Host, Domain all these things?

+provided the information on a page must be relevant and popular to the given search term. You missed this ;)

Definitely home page will be easier to move in higher ranking by many reasons - more natural links, internal site optimization, etc.
It is preferred to use home page for most valuable keywords.

NO homepage having much more authority compare to inner pages. For example title changing in home page, it will show much different in SERPs, but inner not much like home page.
    thanks,

Talking about authority.. Yes, a inner page may have same or even more authority than the homepage if it is optimized properly.
