Reseller hosting or individual accounts?

I'm looking for some feedback...Currently I have an account with midphase.com that is $7.95/month that will allow one domain. I have my biggest site there.

I have a friend who has kindly provided me some hosting through his reseller account, but I don't want to take advantage of him. He hosts 4 domains for me free of charge.

webspace isn't a problem, I use about 100 mb total, but would like some room for expansion of new domains.

I would love to have awstats, even if it is updated daily instead of dynamically.

Those 4 sites will eventually use about 10-20 gig a month.

Should I look into reseller hosting? Or should I just open a few standard accounts with someone like midphase?

Also, I can add an addon domain through midphase for $2 a month. Should I do that?

I am looking to get the best bang for the buck with a reliable host.

    Thanks,

    Brandon

Reseller is the way to go. I've been with www.dathorn.com for two years now.

Or look into getting your own server. Visit www.aitcom.net. I have my own server and can do whatever I want with it. I host several other domains to cover my costs and my sites end up being hosted for 'free'.

A reseller account would be optimal if none of the webs link to each other. We run multiple webs on a reseller account with minimal interlinking and have had no problems. There is speculationn to the effect that Google may penaliize sites linking from same C block. Personally I think this is speculation, and not in place at this tiime or, if it is iin place, only applies if sites are highly interlinked. That said, reseller accounts could give problems in the future.

Wish I could predict the future but alas, am a poor mortal.

Aitcom is a little more expensive that I want to go at this point.

Thanks for the advice Shannon. I don't interlink at all right now, so that wouldn't be an issue.

GTech, I check out dathorn and they seem to be exactly what I am looking for...inexpensive, awstats, unlimited domains, plenty of room for now, and growth. Thanks for the link.

I'm gonna look around for a little bit more.

    Any other recommendations?

How much additional know-how do you need to run you own server? I was thinking about this alittle while ago, but was leary about taking the leap. I have a reseller account right now that is doing fine but I would like to expand in the future

Never use a friends "extra" space.

Never rent a box from a guy already renting the box.

Find a host that owns the data center and the server.

You get what you pay for. If you shop for a 5.95 host, that's what you get.

Go for the reseller account IMO. The WHM part of cpanel is easy to manage. A server is probably over kill and incurs additional work and/or expense to manage.

For a lower cost host, you might want to look at www.asmallorange.com

I've know people who are happy with them and they offer unlimited domains for $5 a month - no setup. I think they also have a reseller program.

I just signed up with http://www.dayanahost.com/?u=1700 about a week ago and opened up 3 new accounts...

I think about 1 or 2 dollars a month with plenty of room for expansion.. service seems prompt and so far everything I am very happy with..

This is a good strategy since new sites take so long to be recognized by search engines etc., so you might as well pay much less from the beginning instead of $10 + per month like most other hosts..

    good luck..
