What is Your Strategy?

What is your strategy regarding which keywords to use?

I type in a term using the Google Keywords tool & use the "exact" search.

I'm just wondering as I usually only find that the keywords with a lot of searches either have medium or high competition. I'd like to find keywords that have a lot of searches but low competition, as all of us probably do.

Was wondering what strategy you guys use for finding keywords, include what you use to determine if these keywords are good please.

its hard to find like those, maybe you can look at the long tail keywords, some long tail keywords got high searches and low competition but its very few.

You can use Google adword keyword tool to research the keywords. It helps you to get local & global monthly searches for that keywords also...

Are you asking about the use of inverted comas in your keywords. It is not preferable in many cases.

Keyword selection is one of the most important and difficult task. Basically first analysis what my website is all about and at which location have i to focus. Second i analysis top ten website and then i use keyword research tool to see traffic towards those keywords. After that make keyword for particular page base upon what that page offers.

You can use Google Adwords Keyword Tool for the keyword research. The keywords with high search volume and low competition are very hard to find. May be you can go for the long tail keywords.

I agree that it's really tough finding relevant keywords with low competition.
But one thing many people ignore is combining keywords to target with others that Google thinks relevant.
It's simple to find such words using Googles Wonder wheel.
This will give your site a boost that most other sites don't have

Thank you all for your suggestions. I had been using keywords I thought would be relevant but they may not be. Can some state an example of a long tailed keyword? And Steve can you provide an example of what you mean too?

Yes, here's a keyword example from my Bible-related site (signature link #2 below):

    • Sermons (the main keyword) ranks #12 today in Google.
    • Free sermons (a "longer"-tail keyword) ranks #4.
    • Free Pentecostal sermons ("longer" yet) ranks #1.

Steps I will do during keyword analysis process,
    1. Collect the entrance keywords for that page from GA.
    2. Will check out the monthly searches in Google adword keyword external tool for common niche and entrance keywords.
    3. List out some KW's and check out their reach in Google insights
    4. Will check competitors for those KW's
    5. Finally will do a KW optimization ( combining the list of KW's into 3 )

in keyword selection, i am using google adwords.. i pick those with low competition.. and using long tailed keyword nowadays is helpful because it is direct to the point. it what the visitors are looking. aside from that, in keyword selection, think as if you are the surfer, and if your are the surfer, what will you be looking on the web.

Yes, lont tail keywords are less competitive compare to generic keywords. You can choose based on the KEI.
