Well it depends on many factors. It could be simple "google dancing", if domain is new google might just set website where it belongs in serp, maybe competition worked on their websites... Browse around little and you'll find much already said on this topic.
this is not a very big problem, all you have to do now is do some good off page and on site SEO. That happened to me also. We cannot guarantee google ranks, sometimes it increase and sometimes drops.
If rankings goes down that means you are doing something wrong and have to change your SEO plans. Also if you blog/site is new and you have just started writing articles a month back, then this is not a big issue. Because all the rankings of any new blog goes up and then it starts settling down after a month or so. You also have to implement some backlink programm.

You can't do it anything. Just focus on building new backlinks, and bringing in new content. The key is to have enough backlinks that can sustain your google rankings. @Cruize: Nice advertising, but people don't need to buy SEO work in order to get rankings back, that's not the point.

You can't know exactly what is the main reason to drop your ranks. You will have to analyze yourself. If all is well, don't worry. Ranking loss may be temporary. Work hard and hard, and you will gain your previous position again.
