All links are not created equal. SEO links that have higher value provide greater optimization benefits compared to low quality links. There are several factors that can determine the quality of website links. These are: • The reputation and trustworthiness of the domain giving the website links. For instance, a link from cnn.com would have higher value compared to a link from a website that ranks lower in the Alexa rank checker. • How relevant the anchor text is to the link. This means that an anchor text saying "fish tank" would be far more relevant and valuable than a "click here" anchor text. • The link's location within the site structure. For obvious reasons, SEO links embedded on a site's homepage is more beneficial than a link that comes from a deeply hidden page. • The link's visibility on a webpage. It also matters where the inbound link is located on a webpage. Website links at the top of a webpage are more visible than those at the bottom. • Similarly, a link that's one of three on a page is more valuable than a link that's one of 80. Now that you have an idea of how website links are given value, the question is: How do you get high quality links? The tips below will explain different methods of effective search engine optimization link building. There are only few strategies to provide such links: 1. Feature your links on related websites, find a related high quality website with good PR and alexa ranking, then ask the webmaster to add a text link on their home page or good subpage. Negotiate a price to have your text add. 2. Publish blogs and RSS feeds 3. Feature your links on directories, pay for your links so it appears on top of your category. 4. Exchange links with at max 3 websites per page from your website, find High PR websites and pages and ask for exchange. 5. Do 3 way exchange
Nice information especially for newbies, would also like to add article submission to the list. I have found ezine very good for backlinks and some traffic.
You don't appear to be concerned about paying for position. Are these links not supposed to be no followed?
That whole 3 way linking is a crazy idea. It is so time consuming and the other guy will likely delete your link the next day. Anyone with a decent site doesn't want to trash it by giving out links. Being cheap can be very expensive.
Linking out is dangerous. The other guy is always one step ahead. But what is the alternative? What is not cheap? What is quality? You hear a lot of passionate sales talk about PR. But isn't buying PR just as dangerous? You get advised to pay a premium for older established directories that charge for position and don't no follow the link. You are encouraged to acquire automated software to submit articles and everywhere you turn someone is promoting yet another guaranteed technique to take you to the top faster than you can blink. Where is that middle path? How does one build an internet presence without deliberately trying to screw the system? Can one screw the system and still get away with it?
Good tips you have shared, in order to get quality links to your site.To get quality backlinks you have to utilize those sites that have high PR,more backlinks, but less outbound links, more traffic is there, so that whenever you use that links for link building, you will get quality backlinks to your site, which will produce high ranking result in search engine.

An article basically is an educational thing, like the stuff I publish in my newsletter. A press release is more of a news thing where you are telling the news outlets something cool your company is doing.

Good content makes people and business link to you because it can offer a benefit to their users. Just remember when creating 'good' content what defines good content. In other words, you may write something that is great, but realize that the person or people that netered a search term or usually looking for a product, advice, assisistance, information, etc... see make sure that content is geared for them, not you.
