Technically that is. 1. The best algorithm. 2. Quickest to index new pages with least number of bot hits. 3. new SERPS appear sooner than any other search engine. 4. SERPS do not disappear when ever there is an update. all that without anyone doing any extra effort for msn search. Bad that surfers don't use msn search much and webmasters end up getting few referrals from msn.
I completely agree...My site (& inner pages) start to show up in msn in one WEEK. awesome..!! People should start using MSN more often.
Yes, I agree MSN is best. My website (www.wight-self-catering.co.uk) is a self catering accommodation website on the Isle of Wight. It has been live for about 4 months now. I have kept the design very simple, no frames, Flash etc. All of my keywords etc. and content contain references to Isle of Wight and Self Catering. But searching on Google for "Isle of Wight Self Catering" returns no results for my site. Using exactly the same search string in MSN my site lists second. This is great but as not you say not many people use MSN. I suppose because my site has only been live for 4 months and because I don't have a Pagerank yet it doesn't stand a chance againgst others that have spent lots of money on advertising and obtaining links. All this doesn't really mean that their site is any more relevant than mine in the search results.
I'll debate the msn bot point, the msn bot has visited one of my sites 538 times in the last 14 days. Google has visitd it 4 times. although i do rank realy well in msn
I get a bot (inktomi) visiting my site 50 times daily. MSN seems to favor new sites - always get ranked well with my new sites.
My rankings on MSN are always a lot better than on Google. Some keywords, I'll be in the top 5 on MSN while on Google, I'm on the 3rd page.
Perhaps webmasters will have a role to play in converting their visitors to using msn search as their search engine of choice... do I sense a revolution among webmasters aiming to jump back to the original corporate cow of MSN at the expense of the new corporate cow in Google? :O One fact is there are thousands of spam webmasters aiming to game google and as such they have many more 'penalties' that may get introduced to msn search (or live.com rather) in the future. If every webmaster played by the rules, then a natural ranking order would be able to exist in every search engine (it would still rank differently according to different ranking criteria) - but then most webmasters would likely see their non-commerial website fall into oblivion as the search engines catered to companies in return for monetary favours.
don't get me wrong. I'd love it if more people used MSN search, I have a lot of popular keywords on it, but let's face it. It's absurd how easy it is to get in the top 10 for not doing all that much. MSN definitely not the best.
I used to agree with the part about indexing, but lately Google has been indexing its ass off. There have been some threads about this and I can confirm it for my sites. Hopefully this will continue, but I doubt it. Just wish more people used MSN . . . I'd get a lot more hits.
I dont get much traffic from MSN. Most of it is Yahoo and Google. Im still trying to figure out the best formula for getting MSN juice
I've noticed the same thing with MSN... my sites all rank much better in MSN and I get 5x the traffic from MSN versus Yahoo and Google - but that's only because I can't get past the 4th page on either of those engines.
MSN's time filter is much different than Google or Yahoo; I remember that I was indexed and the second result for a keyword I was targetting within the first month of my site opening. Surprisingly, there are some things I rank better for in Google than on MSN. Kind of weird, aye?
I'm usually not concerned with MSN, but one of my new sites started getting referrals from MSN search in less than a week. Google hadn't even indexed it yet, and it was the only search engine I submitted the URL to. Yahoo! only took a little bit longer than MSN, but it has many more pages indexed than both.
It is astonishing that MSN can tackle spam without including age factor in their algorithm. If big G did that the first 100 pages was spam. Actually recently I noticed that most of the time the first page of google is only directories especially for very commercial keywords.
