Hi friends I have a site which is based on a simple keyword Even though it's simple,i couldn't reach the top due to my inability in SEO(overall am weak in IT related matters) These are the figures of my keyword 1. 113,000 google search results 2. very low competition(as per Google adword tool) 3.15,000 global search 4.main competitor has 500-600 backlinks (so i guess easy to top the search) ***********i used smallseotools(dot)com to determine the above stated 500-600 figure,but not all of those backlinks had the anchor text similar to my keyword.there were only about 250+ backlinks with my keyword************ please help me,how can i reach the top???????? will only backlinks do the job?????????
Backlinks are the only way you will be able to do job of outranking your competitor. Counting back links is not enough to determine the main strength of competitor. You need to see if they have your keyword in their domain name and how high their Google Page rank is. With persistent daily link building you should outrank them in 90 days.
You can build more backlink with keyword anchor tag back to your site. Build couple of web 2.0 such as bloger, wordpress and hubpages to add in context links. Submit 1-2 articles to ezinearticle and add some authority backlink such as .edu or .gov. Make sure your onpage SEO is optimized. This is the most important than backlink.

No only backlinks will not work for top ranking. For a web page also the keyword density should be high. Even write some articles & press release so that it becomes easy to get ranking early,
What more can I say. Build more backlinks. Use up to 90% anchor text of your keyword and the rest will be other keyword anchor text.

It's not only the number of backlinks, it's the quality. Loads of low quality links will easily be beaten by a few high pr links. Also you need to ensure a variation of links, and also make sure that you don't lose links too quickly, as can happen with low quality links.
