Vastly different results from same keyword searched?

I searched a keyword today in google and it gave me 169,000 results. For some reason i searched that exact keyword
again only a few seconds later and i got 72,000 results. Scratching my head i thought i must have misspelled the word,
but sure enough it was exactly the same, i noticed on the second search it showed my "location" in the left side.

Is there a way to make google search the same every time? Like removing my location or some setting that allows me
    to only search worldwide.

Were you signed in with your gmail or youtube account, while searching on google ? Also try to delete the cookies or if you frequently use IE then try to search your keywords only in Firefox.

Some times google keyword tool won't function accurately.Try to search by logging with your account but you still got high volume on the preferred keyword that you need.

I just use two different browsers to do this :)
a bit crowded on the screen but at least I'd have no hesitation about the result :D

You can also try to disable personalized search by adding &pws=0 to the end of your Google query. Maybe not the best solution for frequent use, but it helps me occasionally.

valdanylchuk, that is great advise. Thank you!! I was just gonna suggest to log out when checking results. And in any case, fluctuations in search results are not at all uncommon. They will often vary between hours. Not so much by the amount of results as described in the OP, but it does happen to the order of the results. Further away you get from the first pages, the more frequently the websites appearing will change around. It's not uncommon and not something to be too worried about! Specially if you site is usually moving up!

The results for specific keywords differ in google according to the region choosen like it will show different results in google.com and google.co.in the point is we need to be much more concern whether we want our website to be ranked higher on google.com or google.co.in.
