Hahahaha. OK, Brum. One thing - you may want to investigate before posting. I lived, full time, under the tutelage of a zen and martial arts master, Tenzan Fumio Toyoda, Rokaji, Shihan. Order is important - in Japan, the meat is demanded, the animal is slaughtered, and the animal is skinned. The tanners get to it after the fact, not prior. The people that condemn the eta do so with meat juices dribbling down their chin. It is sheer hypocrisy, the same brand as the untouchable tradition in India. There is much I love about Japanese culture, but, like mine, it has its bullshit, and I calls 'em as I sees 'em.

I was actually not seeking an argument, but trying to point out what I felt was an obvious contradiction in your posts. You cannot blithely march down to the local grocery store, grab up and consume meat, and then condemn hunting as a nefarious act. If anything, you are supporting an industry that yearly increases the misery of life, and despoils greater and greater ranges of natural forage (read The Jungle, for starters).

Regarding my hunting, I am reminded of the story of a famous roshi, can't remember who, who was in sanzen with one of his students. During the interview, the student was horrified to see the roshi swat a fly with his swatter, and pointed out the evil of the act. The roshi smiled, and said simply, "die with the fly." When I hunt, walking for hours in almost imperceptibly small steps, feeling each curl of leaf, and each shift of wind, eyes wide and heart open; I see my part in this world, and I own my choices as a human being. And when I kill, I acknowledge the life and flesh I took. Perhaps it cannot be understood unless you live this.

But I would ask you to think on what you say.

Gentlemen, we are all just meatsicles. There is nothing holy about the life of a fly, a cow, a deer, or a human. We are all here for a short time and then we are gone forever. Let's not take ourselves too seriously, or even more a cow, a deer, or a fly.

And on that somber note, I segue to Mr. Ted Nugent:

Ted Nugent was being interviewed by a British journalist. The journalist asked,"What do you think the last thought is in the head of a deer before you shoot it? Is it, `Are you my friend?` or is it `Are you the one who killed my brother?'"

Nugent replied, "They aren't capable of that kind of thinking. All they care about is, 'What am I going to eat next, who am I going to screw next, and can I run fast enough to get away.' They are very much like the French in that way."

Brum, you are a very kind person:) You may already have all the info you need, but here is a website with vegetarian recipes:
    http://www.vegcooking.com/
I have been a vegetarian most of my life. I saw a lamb being slaughtered when I was 8 yrs old and refused to eat meat ever again.

Evolution has built humans to be omnivorous. Vegeterianism isn't natural or healthy.

Boy that is news to me. I've not been able to find a single source to back that quote.

I think you are thinking of Tipper Gore.

Always about race with this little one... Sad.

Why do you regret eating meat?

    Nice call..

Careful with the calling a "spade a space" comment... That one got me an infraction.

I find it insulting if they really used that holy phrase on a white supremacist website.

Probably because spades hate being called spaces. Were I a shovel, I'd want it known I was not a mere cipher.:p

Oh, "spade a spade." Really? Why? From Scotch Blog, for one:

In other words, "let's talk plainly." Nothing wrong in the usage.

I agree with you, in essence. But I also believe we shouldn't trample roughshod over where we walk while we are here. This, in the broadest sense.

"Spade", in slang means a black person.

To call a "black person" a "spade" is considered a racial slur.

So, the phrase "call a spade a spade" is offensive to political correctness.

Thus we illustrate the thinking of modern liberals, "It doesn't have to be right, it just has to feel right."

Yep. I'm aware what Mia was referring to. Just providing evidence as to its correct etymology and usage.

And...why in god's name are you up at this hour. Thought I was the only one crazy enough to post in the "witching time of night.":)

I'm not quite to polyphasic sleep. My schedule would be more accurately termed bi-phasic sleep. I work at home, and I've pretty much lost track of both time and days.

Working at home has really changed my sleep patterns as well. I usually sleep in two 5 hour intervals and I'm always awake/asleep at different times everyday. I've been trying to get back out of it becuase it's unhealthy..

Ok my friend, but that's your belief. I have mine, and mine is the contrary to yours. Which is why I can't seem to accept the killing of any life.

What you say may be true northpointaki, but there are many different beliefs regarding kamma and Buddhism. I think I'll have to consult my friends and gain some more understanding.

Thank you rebecca :) That's very useful. Sorry to read about your horrible encounter as a child :(

Many animals can only survive by killing... it's nature. Plus being a veg isn't very healthy at all.

there would probably all kinds of vegatarians all the sudden
