Build Baclinks for Which Phrases?

Discussion in 'Google' started by Fred Tracy, Feb 2, 2011.

I run a personal development site and I'm curious to know what anchor text I should be targetting with my backlink buildling efforts.

I could target "personal development" but it would take ages to rank well for that term.

I could try lesser keywords, like "intention manifestation" or "how to meditate" and do better, but that isn't all my site is about.

How many of my backlinks should be what my site is primarily about, versus what my site is secondarily about?

    Any advice?

First of all you need to do keyword research to your website. This research(depends on how you do) will bring out/sort out the most useful terms you have to target in your SEO. Keyword research is the crucial part for any websites' success.

For example, as an SEO provider, I would suggest these keywords to your website:
    personal development coaching
    personal development training
    personal development tips
personal development for young people/smart people/kids/teachers/women/dummies
    why personal development is important

And on the next step I will be targeting these keywords on your website by optimizing them on-your-web-page & off-your-site(link-building).

Did you get how you have to work out?

Its simple: Your first step is to obtain target business keywords, later optimize those keywords in your on-page and off-page SEO.

If you would like to learn more about the keyword ranking process, read my blog posts on keyword ranking with three steps @: http://www.realwebmarket.com/blog/ (scroll down to see the actual posts)

    All the best!

Thanks for the reply. I already have a list of keywords I want to target, and I know how to build backlinks. My question is: If "personal development" is my main keyword, but I cover other phrases like "meditation," how often should I promote my main, harder to rank for keyword, versus my lesser, easier to rank for keywords?

Perhaps I'm not seeing this from the right angle though. Can you provide any more support? Thanks for the link by the way.

Well, all that depends on the resources and the time available for you. What I mean is, if you have sufficient time and resources you can work on full time for both(main + secondary keywords). If you don't have, then you need to schedule according to the priorities of your targets. As you know that the primary keyword is a long run strategy, keep working on it without any break along with your secondary keywords in a scheduled manner.

Yes keyword research is the most important. If you don't know how to target the backlinks, how can you build anything? Finding blogs to leave comments and forum posts will help..

Before going to rank your keyword, you should shortlist 5 related keywords, those should have good traffic. Then only if the keyword is going to rank means, we can get much traffic.
    thanks,

First you do keyword research and keyword selection than identify primary and secondary keywords. Build backlink based on this.

I agree that you definitely need to do some KW research. But these are some great suggestions! If your target word is "personal development", look for 3-4 word combos that include your core KW. This way, you'll start ranking for some easier terms, but you'll also be building your core KW at the same time...

Perform keywords research based on your most targeted keyword(s). This will help you to generate key phrases and you can choose the right ones, matching to your services. You can use Google adwards keywords research tool for this purpose.

Yea, i personally target my main keyword 75% of the time then use the other 25% for other less valuable but easier to attain keywords.
