See this article , Google proves Bing is copying searches: http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/web/02/02/google.bing.sting/index.html?hpt=T2
This is why Google is number 1 and always will be the number 1 search engine in the World. All others want to be like it, so they go and copy it... It's not fair, but I can understand why they'd want to. Google is amazing.
Bing is claiming the search results are its own. It's like publishing a book with someone elses story but putting your name on it. Illegal in most countries.
Yes I have seen the matter distributed over the net. I still am not able to discover one thing and that is why the Bing team are not able to work professionally like the rest of the Microsoft departments. For example, areas of the company like Xbox or Windows are marvelous but they are still newbies in the realm of search engines, even if they have been active in it for more than a decade actually.
Breathing down their necks? Bing is only 10% of the market. Google is around 70%. Google makes billions from search. Bing LOSES over $500million annually. Bing is stealing from Google. Who is pooping in their pants?
So if Bing can't find a result, they rely on being a middle man between you and Google. Great service. Bing is never going to catch Google no matter how much money Ballmer tosses at it. This escapade only adds weight to an argument that as a service, it's no where near Google and Google improves constantly as that's their beef as OS's are Microsoft's. MS needs to do what it does best and stay out of all these fringe areas it has no place in.
Nothing bad in this. Bing is smart to use their position in the browser market to try and advance their marketshare in search. They are monitoring toolbar queries and destination pages -- so presumably they're doing this across all engines and sites that participate in the IE toolbar, not just Google. How did Google really discover this in the first place? The example in the searchengineland post is very, very obscure so I doubt that Google just happened to stumble across it. They must have done some "cheating" of their own to find it (or at least done some things that they'd consider grey hat if somebody else did it).
Surely if Google were not bothered by Bing they wouldn't have created this little experiment. And don't forget Bing are taking over Yahoo search which will give them a bigger market again.
lol even if Bing copies Google can't sue Microsoft i tried to search a few words and results are same for only 1 or 2 you can't say that they copy for every search but still a great job by Microsoft Engineers
Google could sue them. Whether they will is a question. You didn't understand the article. Google created the example. Bing copied the result. The only way they could get that example is by copying, not looking at anyone's clicks. That was part of the "sting".
Understood, but how did Goog discover the practice in the first place, so they knew to set up the sting? That's not covered in the article, unless I missed it.
