How much do you charge and how many clients do you have?

For those of you who tout yourself as 'SEO consultants/specialists/expers/advisers/professionals' etc:

How much do you charge your clients, and do you do it by the hour or by results or what? Also how many clients do you have, and how do you approach new clients?

Different company & individual have own package/work style. So you better need to check their websites, blogs.

Every company will run differently and charge differently, the best way is to work out how many hours you'll spend on a website per month, then times that by the amount you want to earn per hour, for example if you were going to spend 100 hours / per month on a clients site, you wanted to earn $25/per hour of work you do, then you'd charge $250/per month. :)

It depends on current website strenght, competition level etc... Many of the factors involved. For example, is just one keyword top keyword or you can have much traffic with many secondary keywords.

Personally, I like to work per results. It is the most fair. I give my clients opportunity to choose, we make a list of keywords and current positions and they pay me as their keywords are going up. Or even on traffic.

It depends, some of regular clients know that I will give the best possible job so they just ask me "What do you think for this website, what should be done" and I say "I think $1500 is good to begin and will be enough for next 2-4 months, after that we will go on next step" and they give me that money and I invest that the best way. Of course, they know that I will take around $300-$400 of their money for me and the rest will be invested the best possible way.

    Some projects are easy:
    keyword #27 position
$200 in advance (for my resources)
Top 20 - Included in price
    Top 10 - $200
    Top 5 - $150 more
    #3 - $150
    #2 - $150
    #1 - $150

Of course top positions are the most expensive as jumping from no5 to no1 is much harder than from no27 to no12...

Also, there are some clients asking just for analysis and reports. In that case my prices are very from $100 to $500 per report. But not some rubbish statistics with number of links or similar but real report on 5-8 word pages with real problems and suggestions how to solve them and with my opinions what to do and how to plan the future.

One of the problems with pay per results deals is that I usually have much money but clients late with payments, so I dont know if to force them to pay or just to wait or what to do.

I like your thinking m2webs, I feel the same way. There are some things that are out of your hands with SEO so I think it's unfair to charge a set amount when you can't guarantee the results.

@roadrunner12, Yes... But, there is a specific time and amount of link in need to get the rank or to get in better search. If we are clear with time and the areas where linkbuilding is necessary, we can suggest some services in a pack which suits the timely budget.
