If you could go back in time, the best thing you can think of would be, "Ok... who can I kill?"

    lol... sad really.

Since you can't time travel, why not just change this thread to, "Who do you want to kill in your town?"

Going back in time and changing things would cause a paradox (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grandfather_paradox)

One of them being that if you would to kill someone back in time, that person would have never done what caused you to travel back in time and kill them, meaning that there was no reason for you to travel back in time in the first place.

There are other theories as well, some which seem quite possible to me:

Either that even though it might be possible to travel back in time, you cannot change things or interact with your environment in any way but just "see" things. Kind of like being in "read only" mode.

Or the "multiple universe" theory. If you change something in the past, it will spin off an alternate reality based on the action that you have done. However, YOU would stay in your own universe and thus would not be able to see the effects of the actions that you have taken (unless there is also some way of traveling to that alternate universe.... but that's another story).

Beirutmarketing - Nice save for an otherwise boring thread. Had a Sci-Fi class years ago (hey, it was a course credit)... and time travel is one of the handful of basic themes in science fiction lit. On a similar note tothe paradox you mentioned... the quirk where changing something minute in an earlier year has a magnified effect later is called the butterfly effect.

The story that comes to mind as a great example is a Ray Bradbury classic short story called "A Sound of Thunder". For anyone here that has an attention span that accommodates reading something more than Muslim VS Everyone threads... you're in luck, his story is available online. Enjoy :) : A Sound of Thunder ~ Ray Bradbury

If I could go back in time. I'd go back and change that Mountain Dew thread to Dr. Pepper.
And I'd make White Castle the official food for everything!

It is as foolish to think killing someone in the past would be any different than killing someone in the present as a means to change the course of events.

    LOL!
    ;)
Muhammed was just a guy, like Jesus, like Moses - who might have not even really existed.
Its the anonymous people who succeeded them who invented those pathetic religions and fairy tales centered around these figures.
These people, who wanted to control the masses, are to blame.
Or maybe not to blame? religion played an important role in the development of human culture. But its job is over and it must vanish for mankind to be able to survive.
Its just amazing to see people in the 21th century who still believe in these pathetic and insulting fairy tales. The blessing has become the curse.
