So it's ok to prey on "stupid" people who gamble, so long as the goverment gets the money?

You are off your game tonight.

No, you are simply not reading well tonight. You seem to be the one who is okay with that. Preying on stupid people who gamble. I've been asking, you've been avoiding, what you do with people whose lives go to hell because of it

I can't believe we're arguing over whether the United States is free or not.... this is ridiculous.

Free doesn't mean being able to do anything you want, it's being able to do what is right, what is good.

Remember the good ol' days of the industrial 1890's and early 1900's? Do you remember from either 7th grade history class or a high school U.S. history class the conditions of the time? Laws are put in place to protect us, not to restrict us.

    Your off the mark there.

If an adult American wants to spend his free time in his own home spending his own money playing poker (or blackack whatever) online surely that is his own choice to do so.

Stop defending the BS and wake up to what is happening.

What do you do with people who spend too much money on fast food and go broke? What do you do with people that buy a TV on credit for 4K and can't afford it and go broke? What do you do with people that get a lending company to sell them 200K for a house purchase they can't afford and go broke?

There is not answer to the above questions.

There is no solution in imposing moral vaules on gamblers either. It's sets big brother up to regulate your spending and mine in every aspect as they see fit.

The problem here is that goverment is not regulating corporations that sell money to stupid people that will fail and go broke and will not stop letting people gamble in the very lotteries they run and profit from.

The problem is not what do we do with people who are broke. The problem is the president such laws set in regulating all of us. I think it may be a thing called socialism or even communism. But I will research both before I assert that is where the self rightous rich that run this country are taking us.

I already told you, that an adult gambling affects more people than just himself: it affects those around him, his family, his friends, and HURTS them too. And if he does well gambling, it only makes him a stuck up, rich FOOL with money that shows no effort on his part because it was earned by luck and it doesn't show any struggle or work in life to get his earnings. He won't appreciate it. He'll get all he wants then get depressed. It happens all the time.

No one seems to know what to do about the side effects of gambling: higher bankruptcy rates, higher drug use, higher crime rates, etc. These side effects, are you okay with them? What do you do with the people effected by this (directly resulting from gambling). Give them more money (welfare) to get them back on their feet ... er ... back in the poker room?

Since you incorrecty said this, can you first explain what is a 'right', and then how we have this specific right?

Just asking, since I'm a fan of gambling.

    later,

So, its your position, then. That it just sucks to be them? If someone goes bankrupt from gambling, loses their job and is addicted to drugs - are you in favor of putting them on welfare rolls? To get checks to help them... uh .. get back on their feet. *wink wink*

Our goverment cannot regulate how people spend money online when the very goverment regulating that spending, called gambling, will sell those same people more gambling.

It's just as plain as day.

    Read the link buddy.

Good 'ol Dubya just signed away and if you're American and want to gamble online ya better be careful as it is now illegal. :D

I'm pissed off about it and I'm not even American. I'm British and I can see how rights are being taken away from people. Good honest hard working people both here in the UK and also in the USA are having their rights taken away by idiots.

I do see that. I do see the hypocrisy here - government not wanting gambling, but enabling it (the lottery) at the same time.

Your position is just confusing though, it seems contradictory.

    Your previous post:
On one hand, you want regulations (on the lenders). But you want no regulations on the users of the money, itself. It kinda makes no sense, ya see? You are in favor of defacto regulation on consumers because of regulations on the lenders (who would, in essence be making the monetary decisions of the people who are gambling).

To finish the point, its not really either socialism or communism. It's just updating local laws. You cannot go to the local bar and gamble legally, since your jurisdiction does not allow it. By gambling online, a loophole is exposed. This simply closes it (and does it very poorly, if you read the actual language).

There are few designated areas in the US where gambling is legal. I was surprised internet gambling lasted as long as it did.

    Dear citizen,

For your own good, I will no longer allow you to legally gamble online.

However, if you go to Florida, My brother, Jeb Bush, will gladly sell you lottery tickets.

    Thank you,
    George W. Bush

Why is it ok to regulate people and not the corporations that prey on stupid people? You sure like double standards it seems.

The law Bush signed is actually pretty stupid. It only blocks credit cards being used. Many offshore gambling went to direct EFT a long time ago, and that isn't part of the bill.

I'm not regulating anyone. You are regulating both (as I said). I'm simply asking what do you do with people whose lives are ruined because of it.

Do you put them on welfare? Throw them in the gutter?

If someone could answer me that simple question, I may or may not have a problem with it.

If someone goes broke because of gambling I do not want my tax dollars going to give them a check for being stupid.

I've gambled online at partypoker (lost $200). It is not a moral issue. I like poker and I love slot machines (damn vegas every year). So you are approaching me from the wrong angle by bringing up morality.

    I've always used NetTeller.

Most credit card companies will not allow their card holders to use their cards for gambling.

So have most of the big gambling sites blocked US-based players?

I doubt it. I'm sure they just moved to EFT, if they haven't already. I don't think government can regulate international bank wire transfers. Probably why it was omitted. Not sure though.

My bank barely lets me use it for regular transactions! I have to call them almost every day to verify transactions. I hate my bank :(

The argument is not about what to do with those that fail. It's about a law.

A law which regulates people from gambling, but does not stop the very goverment that sells people gambling from doing that which they say is bad.

It's about the hypocracy of the goverments self rightous regulation.

People will go broke even without gambling and your argument, which is not the point of this thread IMO, will be forever on going and only be solved with some sort of charity to prop broke people up.
