A dedicated server is a single web server within a network of computers, dedicated solely to one customer, most often a large business.

A dedicated server better meets the needs of a large business for several reasons. The client can customize the hardware setup as well as the software to meet exact needs. Data access is faster and high traffic is easily accommodated.

Dedicated servers normally come with good customer service from the web hosting company. The host will work with the client to make sure the dedicated server is meeting all of the needs of the client.

Another advantage of a dedicated server is that the client can easily create several domains on that server. In the case of a company that has multiple divisions or a chain of retail outlets, this becomes much more cost-effective and efficient than each individual division or retail outlet renting host space on a different web server.

btw - just got it off google
just typed the whole thing on google

    -use google.com next time ;)

It's just what you would expect it to be from the name.

It's a collection of hardware (just like your PC) that is provided to you for your sole use. You can either choose a specification that your host offers, or have one built to the specification you prefer.

There are all sorts of other combinations you can choose - operating system, network, other software for example - but the important thing is that the server is dedicated to your use only. The host may retain an account for administrative purposes but apart from that it is your server to be used in whatever manner you choose to use it given the hosting companies terms and conditions.

A dedicated hosting service, dedicated server, or managed hosting service is a type of Internet hosting in which the client leases an entire server not shared with anyone. This is more flexible than shared hosting, as organizations have full control over the server(s), including choice of operating system, hardware, etc. Server administration can usually be provided by the hosting company as an add-on service.
