Images Next To Ads Crackdown???

Discussion in 'Guidelines / Compliance' started by Dumi, Oct 11, 2006.

I dont know if they are cracking down on having images next to ads or what. I see plenty of sites doing this, my images had to do with the ads in general. I had sent in for a review of the site when I placed the images up and was OK'd and that it followed policy.

I had some images above my google links. I didn't think they were a problem, but I took them down all the same when I got this notice. That's the only thing I can think of that would have been close to a violation on m y site.

Well they said that if the images are closely related to the ads then thats a no no. Which they were, hmm my CTR is down 1% today.

I need to figure something else out.

Yea, I'd be interested in knowing where you heard they werne't allowed either. I was under the impression that as long as their was a clear distinction between the ad and the image (like a line), it was perfectly ok.

No that was probably the reason for the warning. The 2nd email I got from google stated that any image that is related to the ad is not allowed.

You mean the two ads at the top of the page? Looks ok to me, or maybe you already made some changes...

Can we get the latest from Matt Cutts on this, because I see so many sites with images beside or near ads that it's hard to believe that G is putting an end to this practice.

I think that would probably limit a lot of sites, in their design, layout etc.
If you are banned from google - is that forever. Is it on that domain, or on your account?

It is forever. On all domains.

AdSense has, I think, been inconsistent in their comments on images placed next to ads. For that reason, my advice is to avoid them. They may have an idea about where they draw the boundaries but they sure don't seem to be eager to make it clear to anyone else.

    Not worth the risk, IMO.

I added a bar between the ads and the images now and also added a border around the image.

I sent them an email asking if this is ok, so we shall see. They made it seem that you cant have any images that are related to the ads.

Put the line within the graphic itsself, that way you can control the amount of space between the graphic and the ad. Nothing is worse that the mile os wasted space a <hr> generates.
