web directory dot com with PR6 charges for $9 per month, it means $108 for one year it you don't cancel the subscription, One time fee or yearly charge are what we choose for most web directories, what's the logic of monthly charge system?
Monthly fee is a great choice of "try before you buy". But you also risk paying more transaction fee since most companies (like paypal) charges a percentage AND an extra $0.3 per transaction.
To me it would make sense in a very high profile regional or niche directory that brings a lot of traffic. IF the traffic doesn't justify the cost then you can cancel the listing.
It would depend on my reasons for adding a site. Some of my clients want me to list sites on pages with a high PageRank and I often look for permanent listings. If I was looking to submit my own website for increasing traffic, I often look for a monthly option. In the early days I would spend $$$ for a listing, banner or text link with the promise of good traffic only to be disappointed with the results. I would be more than happy to pay for 1 month to try but I don’t think I would do so long term. Thanks Brian
Well, instead of a year on one site, you can have a month on 12 web sites. During the short period of time, you can boost your traffic. Who needs it ? Maybe the Halloween costumes site.
Different people prefer different commitment levels and price points. I generally choose monthly myself.
I suppose it's a good option for someone starting out who might have $9 they are willing to spend but don't have the full $108 at the time. Seems like a good marketing strategy to get people in at what seems like a cheaper price. There's more than a bit of psychology at work, $9 just sounds like so much less than $108. Overall the directory looks fairly nice and the PR does go down into the categories but I'm not sure how much SEO value a link like this has - HREF="/goto.asp?frm=no&url=http://domain-removed-by-ymc.com"
If a link was a lot like $108 a yr I would consider paying by the mo but I would expect results.. traffic, link juice, etc. I would expect a lot for that kind of money a lot more then a general directory listing.
Price per year is usually cheaper than 12 x monthly costs. This is clearly obvious, and if there is a choice between 108$ yearly or 9$ monthly, you have to choose the monthly option. Suppose, I like the directory and think that this will bring me a monthly profit of $10 after say three months. I have no money so I have to borrow it. I borrow $9 first month, $9 the second, $9 the third, but the next months are paid from the profit of 10$ each, and after half a year I have some $15 debt. If I pay $108 at once, I need to find someone crazy enough to lend me $100, and after half a year I still have a debt of some eighty (!) bucks. So, yes $9 does seem cheaper, and IS really much cheaper, unless you offer some discount on yearly fee.
