I just made a new post that explains how I ended up with a PR6 page after not updating a site for over six months and deleting the majority of it. http://www.subnixus.com/article/the-secret-to-getting-a-high-google-page-rank Basically, it goes like this... make a new theme for wordpress and make it public. Submit it to all the wordpress theme sites you can find... and wait. If the theme is decent, people will start using it on their site. Make sure you include a link back to your site somewhere in the theme... this link will be permanent and appear on every single one of their pages. So you end up getting good backlinks from those "wordpress themes" sites, which all have pretty good PR. And then you end up getting hundreds of sites linking back to you... and as long as people are using wordpress, and your theme works, you will continue to watch your links grow... and every once in a while a PR6 or PR7 site will use your theme. And trust me, it's not hard. If you know CSS you can make a wordpress theme. And even if it's the ugliest thing in the world, you can still submit it to those high PR theme sites.
Good idea, if you look at the number of new free PHPLD templates released lately, especially by alive and aviva you can see folks are jumping onto this type of promo.
Thanks for that! but many people doing same thing even you make also phpld theme and provides its free.
I thought about doing this once before but filed it away in my head somewhere under the category, "things that would be cool to get around to doing." Now I may have to dust off the file cabinet and dig it back out sometime since I have some anectodal evidence that says it works well. What other theme sites for WP themes are there besides the theme viewer at http://themes.wordpress.net/ ?
Yeah, it doesn't have to be wordpress themes, just take your pick. There are hundreds of things out there that you could release. Wordpress just happens to be something that is really popular at the moment and it's something that will give you a link on every page of a site. If I did it again, I would still create a wordpress theme... and I use textpattern on my site now.
I would have to go back and look... but one of the better ones is www.bloggingpro.com I think it's PR7 and I still get traffic from them to this day.
Laugh, thanks for confirming my suspicions. I posted on this over at the SEO Guy forum a couple of days ago: http://www.seo-guy.com/forum/thread14476.html Off to get some templates.
If it's posted on a public forum, it has probably been saturated for quite some time. Be unique! Don't try this exact idea, build off of it and use your creativity to come up with something better.
It'll take a few hours to create a WP theme that is simple, attractive, and better optimized for Adsense placement than most of the ones available on theme viewer so I think it'll be worth it. But yeah, I know what you're saying.
I don't, but I used www.pixelpost.org for a long time. It really is a good script if you are looking to setup a photoblog.
OH man, I can see the blast of emails ill be receiving "How to get tons of blog traffic to your website AND increase your PR rank' followed by a bunch of testimonials ...for only 49.95! I feel bad for Wordpress themes sites now
Oh... and I just found out I made a mistake in my blog post. I was searching for "nexus for wordpress", etc.... this was the text I used when submitting to theme sites. I said on the blog that the two themes got me about 900+ backlinks.... WRONG! I searched the actual text I used in the theme itself "Powered by the Enlightened"... etc... Total # of results for my two themes: 30,200
If you see PR3, you are getting info from one of the DC's that hasn't updated yet. All of my toolbars show PR6 and so does www.checkpagerank.com What are you using to check it?
I'm beginning to do the same and I actually started an Article Dashboard theme site. Any interested in submitting there themes are more than welcome to talk with me and check it out: http://dashboardtemplates.com Nevertheless, great idea that more people should be doing. The only big problem is the time consumption.
This is not new!!! That’s why after downloading a WP Template I always look at the code to see how many links the author hid. I leave the one on the footer and the rest goodbye, I attribute credit to who deserves it but there’s a limit.
