HI dp addicts, Can somebody explain me, what web directories are good for? How do they make money, There are so many of them, without text ads and so on....
web directories means Links worlds where only and only links live with titla and description. Its good using for backlinks. take a look that avivadirectory, alivedirectory, umdum.com, www.linkcentre.com then finally look there http://www.alivedirectory.com/submit.php http://www.avivadirectory.com/submit.php
As mentioned above, directories are good for getting backlinks to your website. In answer to your other question, they typically make money by charging for submissions (either to have your link included, or to give your link special placement, or to expediate the review process).
I know that. But are these "good" backlinks? Normally you should get backlinks from pages with a similar category and a high PR. Linking nowdays is just like choosing the right keywords in the own page content. I would never pay 75 $ to such a rubbish site. There are specialized companies who sell very good links to pages according to your category. They also cost about 75$, perhaps 100$. But that would be a better investment.
Great for back links, and help pagerank, provide a good SEO boost for your site and cheaper and easier than geting link from normal website
Why not test them out for yourself and see what directories are good for..? Everyone I know asks the same question, and there is no better way to find out.
Dear Michelangelo, Directories are good for nothing at all. Ok, there is your answer. Nothing more to see here, now move along quietly and quickly. <-- The End --> Sincerely, DP addict an0n
Originally directories used to be used as much as search engines (believe it or not). Obviously the sudden growth spurt in the number of directories and the prominance of better search engines such as google have seen directories take a back seat for actual online search purposes. So what are they good for? Well niche directories are still rather good at getting unique hits and search's based on the niche content that they provide, general directories on the other hand are (potentially) going the way of link farms (hence the slightly lower expected PR ranks in the last update - google has caught onto the general directory popularity). All they are really good for now is to build a nice lot of backlinks!
1. Good for getting backlinks, nothing else. There are indeed so many, but high quality ones stand out definitely (dmoz, yahoo). getting in these directory would definitely push your site to good rankings and frequent crawls (which i believe, no one knows for sure what google does in the future) 2. Most directories support themselves in paid links and advertising, so as to keep their directory atleast alive.
