Hey there everyone. I just started up a wordpress blog about a week ago and had some nice comments at the start from serious visitors. However, in the past 2 days I've gotten 10 spam comments, which of 2 were in hebrew. :O How do people find my wordpress blog? Is it through the ping services I'm using when publishing posts or is there some software that finds wordpress blogs automatically? It's really annoying to log in and see that I have 5 new comments when I wake up and 3 of them are just spam. Is this something I should expect with a wordpress blog or am I just unlucky? (While writing this thread I got another spam comment...)
if your blog/website indexed by google, spammer will come you can install akimset to reduce spam comment that come to your blog
Last time I checked akismet out it looked like you had to pay them to get it activated, is this true? EDIT: I found out how to get it for free.
I'd like to re-ask the same question, not out of frustration but curiosity, of course it's normal and it happens to everyone, but how do they do it?
Because that's what spammers do. Look for people to attack. They use all kinds of scripts and searches looking for targets to plant a link. Many times they are "link building " services. You know the ones that promise to get you so many backlinks for a cheap price? Well how do you think they do it? They have scripts that attack other websites with bogus accounts, slogs, comments, and forum profiles. Some justify it in their head that they aren't hurting anyone, and others know that they are attacking websites and have the luxury of hiding in countries that don't give a crap. But to a website owner, spammers, and "link building" services are criminals. You can use Akismet for you comment spam. If you have a network, you'll have to use stronger plug ins and methods, including blocking IP addresses from certain parts of the world, and reporting the links that are dropped to hosting, and affiliate companies. It's a constant battle. Spammers and "backlink builders" are the plague of the internet. The lowest level of existence. They are the bottom feeders of the internet.
Yes, I suppose that as long as your website benefits from backlinks they will exist. Just too bad that they have targeted the wordpress platform.
I don't really like having a captcha on the comments, though I have it on my contact form. Yesterday I installed akismet and I'm glad I did because over night my comments went from: 28 Comments 18 Approved 0 Pending 10 Spam to 43 Comments 18 Approved 0 Pending 25 Spam It seems like my blog is verry easy to find if you're a spammer...
They search putting the common word press footprints as key words and find them, using tools like ScrapeBox
And what are the common wordpress footprints? is it the text saying "powered by wordpress" or similar?
There are many paid and free wordpress plugins which will help to get rid of spammers.I use WP-spamfree.And they find you using commenting softwares. If you have just started a blog and you see comments with usernames such as replica handbags it means that they are spammers and you need to do something to stop it.
