When I started this thread, I was talking about another directory, not about Adda4u. If people want to talk about Adda4u, they should start another thread for it. This thread is about a different directory. I just checked the latest stats for it and found: Active Links: 3057 Pending Links: 49493 Todays Links: 72 Pending Articles: 1122 Total Articles: 1 Total Categories: 13 Sub Categories: 687 Apparently it is still getting more than 400 new submissions everyday and now has more than 49,000.
And they are all spam links. They are pending because someone probably set up a canned stock out of the box phpLD and has never bothered to enable captcha and has never bothered to maintain it. @imperialDirectory. It costs absolutely zero to turn on captcha. That would eliminate around 47,600 submissions.
Totally agreed. Wonder why that webmaster won't turn it on. Or maybe that directory is one of the victim of the semi-auto directory submission script. The submitters most likely only sees the captcha code but not the site. So they have no idea how many pending links are... Its a dead loop. 1) Directory owners stopped operating a directory because too much time wasted on approving / monitoring submitted sites from directory submission script (imagine you see 1000 site submissions while only 10 visits from Google Analytics report) 2) Submitters wasted their time submitting to the directories because the directory became inactive (due to reason #1). i wonder who's the winner here (maybe the programmers who wrote the directory submission scripts?)
The reason the webmaster did not turn it on, is the same reason the directory sits as a place for bots to send submissions. Its because some wannabe figured he could get rich overnight setting up a $15 web site with a $15 program and no effort. Its crap like this that continues to give directories and their owners a bad name.
Are they not using this just to collect email adresses of people and their related companies. Added my web design company to a directory yest anf bang someone phoned me from a charity last night (selling advertizing to me)
Doubtful. The email addresses submitted in that list of pending links are probably all bogus. The pending links are nothing more than crap sites and bot posted links that are looking to take advantage of the directory owners site, not the other way around.
yes the owner of the site didn't tack care of his directory. i thinks he should be monitoring the links daily so the pending links get approved or rejected soon.
The problem is it is almost impossible to know how many pending links a directories has unless stats module is enabled. And when these people approve site they approve in bulk in matter of seconds. I could only imagine the level of editorial integrity.
